Director Matt Reeves gave fans a glimpse of Robert Pattinson’s Batsuit that draws inspiration from DCEU’s games and comics.
Heads Up
- The Arkham Knight Game Influence
- The New Bat Symbol
- Miller’s ‘Year One’ Comic clue
Until and unless you’re living under a rock you would have seen director Matt Reeves tweeted the first look of Robert Pattinson’s Batsuit. Anyway, here it is…
So what do you see hidden behind the shadowy red-black filter – if you could make anything out of it that is? There are a couple of hints that give us a glimpse into the ultimate DC Extended Universe fan fantasy.
The 46-second clip which is mostly out of focus shows the ultimate amalgamation of DC Universe comic inspiration infused with gaming. The suit in the camera test features various costume concepts handpicked from various versions of Batman we have seen on-screen.
Batman: The Arkham Knight

The panel-like chest plate looks eerily similar to 2015, The Arkham Knight Games. Pattinson’s Batsuit look sharper, sleeker, more metallic like the Rocksteady Studios version. All the other versions right from the animated series to Christopher Nolan’s trilogy are more rigid and structured in its design. This suit looks more segmented giving a tech-armour-ish vibe.

The New Bat Symbol

A theory goes that the new bat symbol is the Gun That Killed Bruce Wayne’s parents. A closer look at the symbol in the test shows us that the fabric isn’t stitched the symbol is carved in the suit and later filled with pieces of metal. That makes it super cool when one looks at Robert Pattinson’s Batman’s teaser trailer concept and you can recall the voice over “His parents were killed… it all happened in front of him.”
Makes sense, no?
Batman: Year One Comics

Unlike the armour-esque design of the suit, the cape and cowl are rather fluid in Pattinson’s version. If one pauses at the right time, in the right light – surprisingly, the fabric of the cowl shown in the test is stitched.
The organic patchwork of the cowl seems to draw its inspiration from Frank Miller’s Batman Year One comics. Depicting the makeshift suit that Bruce creates out of a black garment and whatever he could find in the Wayne Manor, during his initial days.
Which brings us to the point that the suit shown in this look test might not be it – as going by Pattinson’s age, his inability to bulk up, unlike his predecessors; it all adds up to ‘Batman: Year One’ plotline which follows Bruce Wayne’s growth arc towards being the Caped Crusader. So there’s ample possibility that the final version of the suit in the movie is yet to be seen.
Well Played, Matt, well played. (Slow Claps)
