The President of the United States Donald Trump faces a ruinous Impeachment inquiry coming his way. The US Congress called inquiry is supposed to intensify further this week.
The United States House of Representatives called for an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. The inquiry is on the basis of serious allegations and information provided by a “WhistleBlower”. The complaint by the ‘Whistleblower’ exposed Trump’s phone call on July 25 with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Allegedly, Trump had asked Zelenskiy to investigate the leading Democratic candidate seeking to challenge him in 2020, Joe Biden. Trump and his allies claim Biden, as Barack Obama’s vice president, pressured Ukraine to fire the country’s top prosecutor. He did so to protect his son Hunter, who sat on the board of a gas company, Burisma Holdings. There are several accusations of corrupt practices against Burisma Holdings.
However, it seems as these allegations have largely been debunked by Trump’s allies. As of now, there has been no evidence of illegal conduct or wrongdoing in Ukraine by the Bidens. In light of the inquiry, Trump has said that he wants to meet the Whistleblower.
Did Trump use US’ Attorney General for personal affairs?
Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Guiliani is leading the charge for the President in his uphill Impeachment battle. However, there is something worth considering. According to the transcript of the July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelenskiy, POTUS pushed for Ukraine to revisit the matter, saying both his personal lawyer Giuliani and US Attorney General Bill Barr would be in touch.
Considering the content of the transcript, President Donald Trump either allowed his personal attorney to intervene or he directed the US Attorney General to work for him according to his personal interests. Both scenarios are questionable as far as the conduct of the President is concerned.
Congress will return to the capital after two weeks of recess and will proceed on Trump’s impeachment inquiry. Democrats have said articles of impeachment — formal charges — against Trump could be completed in as little as a month and swiftly voted on in the House, where the party has a majority.
Republican Aid for Donald Trump
The Republican aides for Donald Trump have sought to turn the tables on Democrats pushing for his impeachment. The Democrats are insisting that the President himself was the true “whistleblower”. Claiming that Trump had asked Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son for corruption.
“This individual is a saboteur trying to undermine a democratically elected government,” Trump advisor Stephen Miller insisted on Fox News Sunday.
“Getting to the bottom of a corruption scandal in Ukraine is in the American national interest.”Stephen Miller
Impeaching the US President is easy for the Democratic party which enjoys a mandate in the House of Representative. Cleverly speaker Nancy Pelosi is using the grounds for “High crimes and misdemeanors”, as this clause is itself not explained in the US constitution.
Currently, there are 435 seats in the House of Representatives where Democrats are the dominant force with 235 seats against 199 seats of Republicans. This provides a crystal clear picture that the Trump impeachment bid maybe successful if Democrats find sufficient evidence of wrongdoing.
However, if the House of Representatives is able to move forward with impeachment, Trump still has a cushion. For the time being, he can count on his Republican Party to support him which holds the majority in Senate as of now. 67% of voters need to vote in favor of impeachment, to remove Trump from the office. A case which seems highly unlikely as of now.
