Looking closely, there are hidden clues and messages in the sartorial dressing choices of the first family of the United States.
So, Donald Trump and Family are finally here in India. The much-awaited arrival of Donald Trump, President of the United States with the First Lady Melania Trump painted a picture that will go down the history of course. Furthermore, what will also go down as documented is their certain sense of fashion that directly links to the Trump family’s brand of politics.
India’s PM Narendra Modi welcomes Donald trump at a time when both the right-winged democrats are too desperate to distract media from their recent deplorable actions. Trump from his impeachment trial and Modi from the anti-CAA protest (while the nation still burns.)
But look closely – there are hidden clues and messages in the sartorial choices of the first family of the United States. Donald and Melania Trump were spotted boarding the flight in a different set of clothes while they arrived in India they had changed into a different set with a more subtle nod to Indian traditions.
While still in US Trump was spotted wearing a royal blue long Jacket, matching pants, a white shirt with a red tie. When he deplaned in India he was wearing a navy blue suit with a white shirt and a yellow tie accessorized with an American flag as a lapel pin. An apt wardrobe for POTUS but that buttercup yellow tie was more meaningful than that meets the eye.
The yellow signifies the season of spring (Basant) in Hindu traditions – the season that marks the maiden visit of Trump also, a hope of spring and a silent nod to Hinduism where the colour also signifies peace, meditation and competence.
During his speech at Namaste Trump programme, he said, “While our nations have many differences they are both defined and propelled by a fundamental truth… the truth that all of us are blessed by divine light and every person is endowed with a sacred soul.”
Seems like, somebody at the White House did their research right.
Day two saw Donald returning to business as usual in a black suit and his most preferred red tie.
When it comes to the first lady she was a sight. Melania Trump, a former model and a fashionista knows exactly how to execute her sartorial prowess. She wore a white Herve Pierre jumpsuit clinched at the waist with moss green and golden metallic thread sash.
The white jumpsuit is part of the designer’s Atelier Caito range. While the green sash pays homage to Indian textiles as it was cut in an early XX century Indian textile documents found by designer’s collector friends.
Pierre posted on social networking site Instagram, “The sash is made out of green silk and gold metallic thread. We used the border which was the most Interesting piece we could use as it was a vintage piece.”
Day two saw the First lady Melania Trump wearing designer Carolina Herrera’s creation who is renowned for voice to the fashion of top figures in politics, having dressed various FLOTUS like Lara Bush and Michelle Obama and more.
Melania again chose White clour with red floral prints cliched at the waist with a red sash twinning with her husband’s Red tie. The couple was received at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind.
Ivanka Trump along with husband Jared Kushner is also accompanying Donald and Melania Trump on their state visit. While it’s a maiden for the rest of the family its Ivanaka’s second visit to India.
And she is the champ in the sartorial department as far as Trump family goes. Not because of her impeccable outfit choices but more for her sustainable choices. Ivanka re-wore her baby blue viscose georgette midi dress by label Proenza Schouler that she first wore during her Argentina visit. That right there is the most powerful message corresponding to the ancient Indian ethos of reuse-recycle.
Continuing the sustainable streak of her fashion politics, day two saw Ivanka Trump wearing a white sherwani and pants from designer Anita Dongre’s Spring Summer 2020 collection. The outfit is made of handwoven silk by artisans in Murshidabad, West Bengal.
The Trump family came and how. With all the pomp and show it’s yet to see what the future hold for these two countries.
