The latest Thor: Love and Thunder teaser feels showcases Thor in a new light. He has given up his thunder and is all for love now. But for how long?
The new Thor: Love and Thunder teaser has finally arrived. And it is refreshing to see Chris Hemsworth in his Thor avatar. But this time, he is looking for inner peace. On the other hand, new faces arrive with “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” by Guns ‘N Roses playing in the background. We are about to go old-school all over again!
Watch: Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder | Official Teaser
The last time we saw Thor was in Avengers: Endgame. He settled in Tønsberg, Norway, the new home of Asgardians. He made Valkyrie the new leader of New Asgard. As for himself, he stated that for the first time in a thousand years, he didn’t have a path. Well, the new teaser does show how he is looking for one, and it’s glorious.
A tribute to the Original Thor Costume
The teaser begins with Thor running across the three phases of his life, as a child, as a teenager, and as an adult. The teenage Thor is wearing what is clearly the original costume of Thor from the comics. We can see the wings on his helmet and the whole design is also the same as well as the color combination. However, it is more of clothing than a suit of armor. So it was probably his training clothes.
Gives Up Stormbreaker
Thor got Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War. But with Thanos dead, we see him give up his ultimate weapon. We see him bury it in the ground followed by him meditating. This, by all means, is proof that he will give up fighting and he mentions it too i.e. his hands will be “humble tools for peace.” But does this mean that he will accept evil and do nothing about it? Thanos’ death doesn’t necessarily mean the end of all evil. And we already know who Thor will face in the film. And he will need more than a Stormbreaker for the guy.
Thor’s Weight Loss Regime
Thor: Love and Thunder will give us a health-conscious Thor. We see him following a weight-loss regime followed by his revised ripped body. With what’s coming his way, he will need to be stronger and more agile; although he doesn’t have any idea about it.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are Back
Peter Quill and his band are back to entertain us. It will be interesting to see director Taika Waititi’s humorous take on these characters. We have Peter, Mantis, Drax, Nebula, a grown-up Groot, and Rocket Raccoon. We don’t see Gamora here. Her existence is a matter of debate as she was brought back in Avengers: Endgame even though she was sacrificed by Thanos for the Soul Stone. The deleted scene of Avengers: Endgame, where the Avengers honor Stark by taking a knee, shows Gamora walking off to god knows where. We do not know if she will be there in the movie. But it will be nice to see the Guardians team up with Thor again.
Thor’s New Blue and Gold Suit
We finally get a good view of the highly anticipated blue and gold suit of Thor. This will probably be a part of his battle armor suit that was first introduced in promo art for Thor: Love and Thunder. It looks more cosmic as well as technologically adept.
Zeus is Here
Zeus is finally revealed to us but from the back. But we all know that it is Russel Crowe who will play the character. For an actor of his calibre, the role of Zeus seems fitting. Moreover, with Zeus, there is also a chance that we will get to see Hercules. With Waititi helming the movie, we can expect surprises like these, right? What waits to be seen is how the movie connects Thor, Zeus, and Gorr.
Lady Thor Is Muscular
The ultimate revelation of Thor: Love and Thunder teaser was Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as Lady Thor. And she looks mighty and muscular! We will see her fight alongside Thor, something that we have waiting for, for a very long time. She dons her iconic suit with the winged helmet and we can’t wait to have more of her.
Thor gave up Stormbreaker. He is all for peace now. The Greek god Zeus has been introduced and probably more will too. All these are signs of the arrival of Gorr the God-Butcher. Thor will have a tough time going back to his former warrior self and lifting the Stormbreaker, something that he has to do if he wants to even think of defeating Gorr who wields the All-Black Necrosword.
However, there is absolutely no mention of him in the teaser and it makes sense too. A villain of his stature deserves a proper introduction, not a teaser. And it is the great Christian Bale after all. Surely, Waititi has reserved at least two shots in the trailer all for Bale if not more.
Thor: Love and Thunder releases exclusively in theatres on July 8, 2022.
