From the virus escaping from a lab in China to bats being the source of the virus to the virus originating from the Wuhan-wet market – there are countless theories. However, let’s have a look at some of the spine-chilling and weird COVID-19 conspiracy theories that haven’t been talked much.

Greta Thunberg created COVID-19
Some netizens believe Global Climate change activist teenager Greta Thunberg created coronavirus for us all to stop hurting mother nature. As hilarious it mind sound, with the lockdowns and travel and transportation bans the earth’s carbon footprint has actually gone down since December.
Disney conspired COVID-19 before the launch of streaming services
Another one in the bunch but conspiracy theorists believe that media giant Disney has timely launched COVID-19 to coincide with the launch of its streaming platform Disney+. Yes, we all have the time in the world to binge now!

No wait, it was Netflix
COVID-19 is created by streaming giant Netflix to promote the new series Pandemic. The show deals with a plotline about how to deal with an outbreak. If this is true then there has been no greater marketing gimmick in history!

COVID-19 has an Alien hand
Well, it’s always the aliens, ain’t it? No conspiracy theory list is complete without the mention of aliens. A scientist of the Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology professor Chandra Wickramasinghe, claims that the virus arrived in a fireball from the space that burnt up in China last year October.
Coronavirus predicted in 1981
After the news regarding the coronavirus outbreak made the headlines, this particular theory has massively circulated around social media. In 1981, in his novel ‘The Eyes of Darkness’, author Dean Koontz eerily predicted the coronavirus outbreak. A photograph of an excerpt from the novel went viral on the internet and created a serious buzz among the netizens.
The plot of the novel is based around a young boy who mysteriously disappears on his camping trip. As the mother goes around in an attempt to search her son, it is revealed that the boy is held in China, in a place called Wuhan – the epicentre of the present COVID-19 outbreak.
Sounds uncanny?

A passage from the novel talks about the coronavirus. A character named Dombey talks about a virus called Wuhan-400 that was developed in RDNA labs outside Wuhan and was ‘the four-hundredth viable strain of man-made microorganisms’. The passage also gives details how the virus affects human beings. This prediction in 1981 is probably the most bone-chilling theory related to COVID-19. It’s weird and thrilling.

As usual ‘The Simpsons’ predicted it first
The highly acclaimed American animated sitcom ‘The Simpsons’ has won several accolades over the years. However, the sitcom is best known for correctly predicting some future world events much before they took place.
The show had astonishingly predicted the 9/11 attacks along with Donald Trump getting into the presidency. The sitcom has indeed served as a foreteller of some popular world events. However, the sitcom came into limelight recently after one of its episode was alleged of predicting the coronavirus pandemic.
A recent Facebook post talked about one of the episodes of ‘The Simpsons’ from 1993. In the episode, the characters, Homer Simpson and Principal Skinner are shown sick; while another image shows a newsreader with a newspaper with a cat and word ‘corona virus’ appearing behind him. However, there is no significant proof of this theory as the images are shown were believed to be altered.
Is coronavirus a Chinese bio-weapon?
This is another prominent theory spreading all around. The theory suggests coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 as a new bio-weapon used by China to control its huge population.
A report suggests that some Chinese scientists were denied access to the National Microbiology Lab of Canada after they were found spying. The lab deals with some deadly pathogens. The ‘policy breach’ highlights the bio-weapon programs in many countries including China.
“The coronavirus is an offensive biological warfare weapon with DNA-genetic engineering.” – Dr. Francis Boyle, the creator of Bio Weapons Act
Though most of these theories may sound unnatural and unearthly, they do have some valid plots to prove their worth. The passage from ‘The Eyes of Darkness’ in particular, seems quite chilling. Which of these theories do you find most genuine? Or do you have one of yours?
