The nCOVID-19 lockdown has become a nightmare for the film industry. Since the Coronavirus outbreak turned into a pandemic, Marvel and DC have witnessed different impacts in their Superhero Box Office rivalry.
Highlights!
- DC lacks commitment as well as a chronology
- COVID-19 outbreak is going to become a nightmare for DC
- Joker cannot always be a saviour for DC
It turns out that the deadly coronavirus will somehow be more beneficial for the superheroes at Marvel over DC. It may drown DC even further as fans are super excited to see the much-awaited standalone movie of Black Widow who sacrificed her life to extract the soul stone from ruins of Vormir.
Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow grasped all the fans’ sympathy. Marvel played pretty well with their fans emotions by deciding to launch Black Widow in the second phase. The movie will be the second standalone MCU movie of a kid turning into a soldier for SHIELD without any superpowers.
When we talk about the number of movies and the box office collection, DC is nowhere near Marvel. DC has one of the most powerful characters but its poor production and lack of gripping narratives have hampered viewership. Something that looks likely to continue in the upcoming years.
DC lacks Commitment as well as a Chronology
Well, everybody has to evolve with time to keep up with the world. DC most certainly is on the verge of losing its credibility due to its poor production as well as the inability to buildup a good storyline.

Historically speaking, DC is credited with the invention of superheroes. DC introduced Superman in the 1930s with Marvel following shortly after with the Human Torch. In the 1960s, the comic wars kick-started when Stan Lee was tasked with creating a team that could compete with the growing success of DC’s Justice League, finally founding the Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby.
Where DC lacks the most compared to Marvel?
DC lacks a lot of things in comparison to Marvel. It does not have committed actors. The studio hasn’t even tried a crossover. And when it tried its luck with humour in Justice League, the plot pretty much failed to have the Marvel effect. The viewers couldn’t accept the influx of comedy and consequently failed to connect with, the dark storyline in the new flavour.
If we talk about Marvel, it created a base first by launching standalone movies of its superheroes like Ironman, Thor, and Captain America. Only then did it come up with the Avengers saga. On the other hand, with DC, well we all know they are far away from the term Chronology. Where Marvel is already in its fourth phase after releasing around 23 movies, DC is still on its 9th instalment with Wonder Woman 1984.
COVID-19 outbreak is going to become a nightmare for DC
Admittedly, it took DC a while but in 2017, Wonder Woman proved a female superhero movie could be successful. Wonder woman 1984 is set to release in the month of June 2020. If the coronavirus outbreak still isn’t under control by June, Warner bros “Wonder Woman 1984” could face headwinds. The decades-old Marvel and DC rivalry amid Coronavirus lockdown is going to come in handy for Marvel.

For DC, it will be like a final nail in the coffin as Marvel’s upcoming movie Black Widow has already grasped people’s attention and has created quite a hype. COVID-19 pandemic will cost DC a lot as it is already on the verge of losing its credibility. Marvel and DC rivalry amid coronavirus is likely to take marvel ahead of DC.
Joker cannot always be a Saviour for DC
Marvel sure does have the more powerful lineup of superheroes. But when you talk about the villains, DC’s Joker is in the different league. Nobody, I repeat nobody can match the potential of its psychopathic, anarchist character, THE JOKER.
It was 2008 when Nolan launched The Dark Knight and took the box office by storm. An unforgettable performance of the Joker (Anarchist) played by Heath ledger changed the definition of Villains in Hollywood movies. That was the time when DC was struggling with its non-committed actors. Joker saved the day and brought DC back in the game.
Then Man of Steel, Superman v Batman happened and again DC came down to an all-time low at the box office at a time when Marvel was ruling like an undisputed emperor. Then again in 2019, the Joker hit the theatres and single-handedly showed its importance and potential at the box office by crossing the $ 1 Billion Mark and with Joaquin Phoenix bagging the Oscar.
But, Joker cannot always come out as the saviour for DC. It is high time that DC re-strategize and evolves with time and comes at par with their viewers’ expectation.
Otherwise, the Marvel and DC superheroes rivalry amid the continuing Coronavirus will turn out to be a nightmare for DC and as Marvel remains strong.
