A devastating terrorist attack in Pulwama, Kashmir has martyred 37 CRPF jawans. India stands united in its demand for tough retaliation against the perpetrators of this heinous act.
- A Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide bomber launched a deadly attack on a CRPF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday, killing 37 jawans.
- India has come out strongly against Pakistan for shielding Jaish-e-Mohammad founder Masood Azhar.
- As an immediate consequence of the attack, India has withdrawn the most favoured nation (MFN) status given to Pakistan.
- China’s double standards in shielding Masood Azhar from being designated a global terrorist must also be called out now in no uncertain terms.
As the world was celebrating Valentine’s Day, the ugly demon of hate, terrorism and violence reared its ugly head once again in Jammu & Kashmir. And the result was catastrophic.
Jaish-e-Muhammed suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar rammed an explosive-laden SUV into a bus carrying CRPF jawans. So far 37 casualties have been reported. This was part of a convoy of 70 CRPF vehicles carrying around 2,500 personnel.
The terror outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack. It released a video of Dar, where he talks about atrocities being inflicted on Kashmiri Muslims. He states that when this video is released, he will have reached jannat (heaven).
EVIL ORIGINATES IN ‘LAND OF THE PURE’
While strongly condemning the terror attack, India firmly told Pakistan to stop protecting Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, “I understand that the nation is angry. We trust Indian Army’s valour and courage. I want to tell you that forces responsible for the attack will be punished… Our neighbouring country, which is experiencing a major economic crisis, thinks that it can ruin India, by making such a catastrophe. Their plans will never be fulfilled.”
As an initial response to the terror attack, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that India has withdrawn the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status that was accorded to Pakistan. He also affirmed that all diplomatic efforts will be undertaken to isolate Pakistan at the international level.
Pakistan has given its token condemnation for the attack, for what it’s worth, “Attack in Pulwama in the Indian Occupied Kashmir is a matter of grave concern. We have always condemned acts of violence anywhere in the world. We strongly reject any insinuation by elements in the Indian media and government that seek to link the attack to Pakistan without investigations.”

I’m deeply disturbed by the cowardly attack on a #CRPF convoy in J&K in which many of our brave CRPF men have been martyred and a large number wounded, some critically. My condolences to the families of our martyrs. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

UNITED INDIA DEMANDS RETRIBUTION
The Uri attack in 2016 that killed 19 soldiers compelled India to launch surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. This attack is far worse, and fills the hearts of every Indian with grief and anger. As Indians, we must stand united in the face of this tragedy, and also strongly support the Indian army’s right to retaliatory action against its economically and morally bankrupt western neighbor.
The attack also reminds us of the shocking and shameless apathy of China, which has repeatedly used its veto power at the UN Security Council (UNSC) to block India’s attempts since 2008-09 to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. While we plan to isolate Pakistan, India must also call out this unscrupulous duplicity of China in no uncertain terms.
And lastly, India needs to be alert to its own security interests. The blood of our soldiers isn’t cheap, and there are lessons to be learned from this attack. The preparations for the convoy movement from Jammu to Srinagar were quite comprehensive. A road opening party (RoP) had sanitized the highway for IEDs, and men were also looking out for possible grenade lobbying or firing.
But the CRPF paid a heavy price for being sensitive to the needs of civilians and allowing them to use the highway. Adil Ahmad used this humane gesture by the CRPF to fulfill his deadly designs.
Security forces have broken the back of Jaish-e-Mohammad in J&K of late, and this terror attack is a desperate and cowardly act to break the resolve of our security forces and our nation. They will never succeed, and India will ensure that they pay a heavy price.
