How do the mighty Avengers save a multiverse that runs backward in time?
The multiverse theory has been around for decades; the idea that our universe is one of many other universes. That theory spins a web of new ideas that there isn’t only one you and me, that there are multiple versions of ourselves. We’ve seen movies and TV series built around this bizarre theory. But the idea seems to be getting old. People seem to have run out of twists to make it rather fresher, new again.
Well, the news is quickly turning out to be an exaggeration; but definitely brings us a twist that Marvel’s multiverse theory badly needs.
While NASA scientists were working on an experiment in Antarctica to detect cosmic rays, they detected high-energy particles coming “up” out of Earth. This is very unusual since high-energy particles can only be detected coming “down” from space. This could mean that these particles are traveling backward in time. Now some media houses started claiming that it could be possible evidence of a parallel universe. Quickly, those alarming reports went viral across the internet.

What exactly did NASA find out in Antarctica?
Did NASA really found evidence of a parallel universe running backward in time? Not quite.
Apparently, the claims made by some prominent American tabloids were totally overdone. The proponents of the theory seem to have misunderstood the research in question. As per Forbes, scientists working on NASA’s ANtarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA), a balloon-based experiment, actually found evidence of fundamental particles that may defy our current understanding of physics.
Now, of course, it will entail much more data to even bring it close to a workable theory, but why not entertain the idea right now. Besides, this is just the twist that the old multiverse theory needs – a parallel universe where time runs backward.
As bizarre as the idea of parallel universes is, the concept of time running backward would redefine the meaning of the word ‘bizarre’. Let’s try to grasp our heads into this. It will be a universe that starts from the end and is moving back to where it all started. The cause and effect principle wouldn’t apply. In that universe, it will be the effect and then cause principle. Things will happen first. Then they get to know how and why it happened.
Now, let’s get to the main question – how do you save a universe that runs backward in time? Well, if the Marvel superheroes are just as real there as they are in our universe (at least in our imaginative minds they are), how would they cope with such phenomenon and exert their superhero powers? Let’s see how.
It all starts with the Endgame
In that universe, they would have known what happened in the end. Their ‘Endgame’ is where it all starts. So to be superheroes, they would need to know what they got to do, and it depends on what happened at the end. If the end was good, they got to make sure that everything that happens from that time on is maintained so as not to change that ‘good’ end. But if the end is rather bad, then they got to know what to do to change that ‘bad’ ending.

It’s relatively the same with what the Avengers did when they traveled back in time through the Quantum Realm to bring back those that vanished when Thanos used the infinity gauntlet and snapped his fingers, of course at the expense of two of our beloved superheroes, Iron Man and Black Widow (sorry for bringing back bad memories). The only difference is our Avengers had to travel back in time, whereas the Avengers in ‘that’ universe don’t need to; they just need to wait and find the opportune time when they got to do what they got to do. Now, there lies the problem. Because in that universe, they wouldn’t know when that time is.

Unlike our Avengers who already went through it and knew exactly when to go back in time to make the necessary changes, the Avengers in ‘that’ universe don’t have that luxury of knowing. Now it’s a different thing if they can go back and forward in time as they please, but based on what time travel theory actually suggests, it’s not that simple.
Multiverse back in time
So, I guess ‘our’ Avengers need to come to the rescue. They got to somehow find a way to communicate with the versions of themselves in the other universe and let them know exactly those pertinent moments in time that they can do something that will matter. That is of course assuming that we are twin universes, and that we share the same fate. Aside from being able to help, our Avengers also get to benefit from the very idea of knowing the future. Then they can also do what is needed to be done to either change it or ensure that it stays its course.

It seems all is not lost for our ‘twin’ universe then. But if you ask me, it’s a sorry trajectory of life. It’s like they live their lives trying to justify their end, their future. They don’t get to have that same anticipation that we all experience – unaware of what lies ahead. Well, because in ‘that’ universe, they literally don’t have a future. So no matter how chaotic things are, we better treasure our universe; because it is still the one that makes better sense.
