With Netflix’s Enola Holmes, Millie Bobby Brown has Hollywood at her feet.
Now, where to begin? 16-year-old Millie Bobby Brown not only acted in Netflix’s Enola Holmes but also served as a producer. The young actor again flaunts the mettle of her acting skills starring alongside Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter and Sam Claflin. The movie is a spin-off on the acclaimed literary character Sherlock Holmes.
Henry Cavill (Sherlock) and Sam Claflin (Mycroft) play the elder siblings for Brown’s titular character Enola. The movie provides young adults with a new role model to look up to. Based on books by Nancy Springer, the story line chronicles Enola Holmes who is trying to overcome her famous brother Sherlock’s shadow while going on her own adventure.

Millie Bobby Brown As Enola Holmes
From the Enola Holmes trailer, the movie looks fantastic! Interestingly Brown breaks the fourth wall often and looks like other characters are part of her narration. Brown, Cavill and Claflin display amazing sibling chemistry and camaraderie both on and off-screen. One can see in the trailer how Sherlock (Cavill) looks in awe at his sister’s detective skills while Mycroft (Claflin) calls her a ‘wild child’ and tries to ‘make her fit for society.’ Further, Bonham Carter plays their mother Eudoria with effervescent ease. Netflix’s description for the movie reads.
While searching for her missing mother, intrepid teen Enola Holmes uses her sleuthing skills to outsmart big brother Sherlock and help a runaway lord.

Targeted at a younger audience, the movie is a fresh take that departs from Guy Ritchie and BBC’s dramatic tone but manages to retain the ‘Sherlock’ brand of excitement and mystery, for its audience. The initial reviews have been good for the movie overall with critics favoring Brown’s interpretation of the role.
The Stranger Things star is synonymous with her character Eleven. And why not, Brown made history by being the youngest person to be nominated for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the role. Her portrayal of Eleven is so strong that Brown admittedly had to learn to speak again in a British accent for Holmes. While we saw Brown debuting on the big screen in 2019 with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, now, with her second outing as actor and first as a producer, she is not only breaking the fourth wall but the glass ceiling also!

Enola’s Detective Skills
The trailer shows a montage of Enola learning various unconventional skills from her mother. In context of Victorian England premise set by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, both Enola and her mother Eudoria are quite badass. The trailer showcases Enola learning archery, swordsmanship and engaging in a fight sequence with her voice, smashing patriarchy! And then very carefully director Harry Bradbeer wrapped in the trailer the message of Enola’s evolution from the wild child to a lady (well… almost).
Enola confesses she wasn’t taught to embroider… she was taught to watch and listen and to fight! A message many young girls need to hear even today! And amid all this, she is on a quest to find her mother. Her sharp wit and detective skills even seem to impress her elder brother Sherlock. Enola is accompanied by a young Lord Viscount Tewksbury (Louis Partridge) on her adventure. And while Brown wanted to provide young adults with a role model in Enola, it looks like she is rising to be the role model they should look at!
Enola Holmes starring Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavil, Sam Claflin, Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Patridge, Frances de la Tour, Fiona Shaw, Adeel Akhtar, Susie Wokoma and Burn Gorman will premiere on Netflix on September 23.
