Fifty-five-year-old actor Keanu Reeves has a thirty-six-year long movie career. Each generation has their own versions of the actor and that’s what makes him a cult figure… a legend, even immortal for his many fans.
Keanu Reeves played an exorcist in Constantine, a volatile teen stoner in River’s Edge, a fun teen stoner in the Bill & Ted franchise, an action hero in Speed, a rebellious Scott in My Private Idaho. A (dog) lover and deadly assassin in John Wick franchise and Neo, the chosen one, from the mind-bending Matrix, who showed us the glitch!
Gen Z is familiar with Reeves for his love for puppies and motorcycle riding, his Cyberpunk avatar, and sad Keanu memes among others.
A Pop-Culture Icon
Keanu Reeves’ might be only one among his peers like Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, who helms multi-franchise stardom and has no qualms about it. It’s not hidden that the actor has done various random acts of kindness without bothering about any publicity. As The New Yorker puts it, “Keanu Reeves is aware of his celebrity status but doesn’t take advantage of it, and he’s generous but careful with his presence.”

But one can’t certainly deny that The Devil’s Advocate star has an enigmatic presence, he’s aloof, humble and tragedy ridden. His distant stance from media and Hollywood’s hypocritical political commentary, unavailability on social media platforms, and occasional promotional interviews – is all that fans get. And that’s what makes him even more intriguing.

However, that doesn’t mean Reeves is distant from his fans. Apparently he is the sweetest guy you would bump into on the street! Last year, a small plane carrying the Destination Wedding star and dozen other passengers from San Francisco to Burban made an emergency landing in Bakersfield. He arranged a bus for the passengers and traveled with them reading them facts and playing music and gracing passengers’ Instagram timelines.
A Movie Maverick
In a career spanning over 3 decades, the Point Break actor (not looking at you Thor) has done some excellent work. And now the news is Keanu Reeves is interested in reprising another John – Constantine! Director Francis Lawrence recently teased sequel plans with the actor. Given, DC is charting unknown territories in the past few months with Michael Keaton returning as Batman for Flashpoint movie, Justice League: Zack Snyder Cut releasing et all – nothing seems impossible!
While we are all in for another Keanu Reeves’ Constantine movie, it’s a long shot! We all know Marvel has been consistently interested in offering him bigger, better superhero roles like the Ghost Rider.
But for now, Reeves’ will only be time-traveling with Bill & Ted’s universe, which is set to amuse fans once again this August. The movie comes as a welcome relief for fans around the world after months-long COVID-19 lockdown.
Third, in the franchise, Bill & Ted Face The Music will see Reeves and Alex Winters reprising their roles. Interestingly, their daughters are played by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine respectively. It would be a second time for Reeves to play a father on screen.
Speaking of kids… another interesting Keanu franchise project, which will be directly released on streaming services due to the Coronavirus outbreak, is The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Reeves plays (hold your pants for this) ‘a sage piece of sagebrush!’ He is a sage, as he explains in the trailer. Who helps SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick in their quest to find their pet snail, Gary.

Reeves got a knack for animated movie appearances from Pixar’s Toy Story 4. In the 2019 flick, he plays a motorcycle stuntman action figure, Duke Caboom. The stuntman suffers from low self-esteem as he can’t perform stunts featured in his own TV advertisement. Known for his amazing stunts and love for bikes, Reeves’ performance is hilarious.
Another interesting 2019 appearance Reeves’ made was in comedian Ali Wong starrer Always Be My May Be. Reeves’ played himself as the lover of Wong’s Sasha. The internet-obsessed, quasi-spiritual, darkly handsome avatar.
Wong, on the other hand, had a more rooted reason to cast Reeves. Ali said she cast him in the part because ‘he’s Asian-American, even if many people forget it.’ Reeves descends from Hawaiin father with Chinese ancestry and an English mother.
But What About All The Action
Well, good news is bad news! Keanu is set to reprise his notable action roles both as John Wick and Neo in Matrix. Before the outbreak of the pandemic, fans had an unreal world where both the movies were set to release on the same day.
Alas!

Shortly after John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum’s success Chapter 4 was announced. Summit Entertainment executives were hyped to make another movie and cash in on franchise’s popularity. The actor was to start the John Wick shoot after finishing Matrix 4.

Given the pandemic, WB halted Matrix 4 indefinitely. While there is no change in the release date from August 2021; the temporary delay is surely going to affect John Wick production. Fans would have to wait a tad longer to see Keanu Reeves in an action movie.
So, let’s pin our hopes on Cyberpunk 2077’s November release. Reeves is playing Johnny Silverhand. And from the looks of it, he seems dangerously delicious!
