The Witcher Wild Hunt is not only the name of the third game in the Witcher game series but it is also a very important aspect of the Henry Cavill led Witcher franchise on Netflix. The end of the second season had teased the Wild Hunt with zombie-like riders on horses coming from the portal which had opened up. So let us see what the Witcher Wild Hunt was all about.
What is Witcher’s Wild Hunt?
The world of The Witcher is a multiverse where there are multiple spheres, each with its people and monsters. More than 1,000 years before the events of the first season, a catastrophic event known as the Conjunction of the Spheres brought monsters and people from many of these spheres to the Continent, the primary setting of the series. Meaning, taking The Witcher to its own multiverse.
The witch in Season 2, Voleth Meir appears on the Continent after the Conjunction and is imprisoned by the first Witchers. Geralt can’t defeat her, so he effectively gives her what she wants, allowing her to return to her home sphere and reunite with the rest of the Wild Hunt. Where we see Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer in that sequence is a different plane where the Wild Hunt exists.
The Wild Hunt will eventually result in a huge battle that will change the entire landscape of the continent. Ciri will eventually have to fight all the monsters and the whole undead army coming from the wild hunt. So whether the trio visits them again or that Wild Hunt comes to the main Witcher timeline – next season is for sure opening doors to The Witcher Multiverse.
Season 3 Script Is Almost Done
Back in December 2021, Lauren Hissrich told TechRadar that the writer’s room for season 3 would be done by the holidays. Although she doesn’t have a date for when filming will start, production might start after Henry Cavill finishes filming Highlander.
“Actually, this is our last week [December 3] in the writers’ room,” Hissrich said. “We’re almost done with the scripting phase, and it’s amazing. I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favourite book in the saga, which is ‘The Time of Contempt.”
Major Character Development For Geralt In season 2
Speaking about the creative process from season 2 of The Witcher, the Man of Steel actor reveals that he had fought hard to change an aspect of Geralt which he felt was integral to the character but had not translated that well into season 1, which was getting to know more about Geralt.
“This season, I really wanted to make sure that we represented the book’s Geralt more accurately, and that we saw him speak more.”
Further illustrating, “I pushed really, really hard for that.” Does this mean he’s cheery? “I wouldn’t say cheery. He’s still Geralt of Rivia, but he’s definitely coming across as more of an intellectual.” (Sigh!) “It’s a hard life, monster hunting… I wouldn’t recommend it.”
Henry Cavill has loved playing Geralt Of Rivia, a fan of the games from CD PROJEKT RED, his passion for The Witcher shows when he speaks about the project. The first season of the series was a huge hit and was immediately renewed for a second and third season.
The second season of The Witcher is now streaming on Netflix.
