From Fanny Packs To Parachute Pants
The new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer, released during DC’s Fandome, featured exciting details and spoilers about how the plot in Diana’s second movie installment might play out. The first thing we notice is that a couple of faces from the first Wonder Woman movie, released in 2017, will be returning.
The most important among them is Diana’s lost love, Steve Trevor. The trailer shows a perplexed Steve contending with life in an era he doesn’t understand. “Parachute pants! Does everyone wear parachute pants now?” Although it doesn’t reveal how he was brought back from the dead, the trailer does seem to confirm speculation about a wish-granting stone and the presence of the evil lord. The block television sets and garish fashion amusingly reproduce 80’s America.
A Trip To Themyscira
We are reintroduced to Antiope, played by actor Robin Wright, in scenes from Themyscira, where a young Diana is seen training. Antiope died in a rain of German gunfire in the first Wonder Woman movie, and the implication is she might only be appearing in flashbacks. Another familiar face making a return is Queen Hippolyta, played by Connie Nielsen.
Although Diana’s resurrected lover, Steve Trevor, is expected to be by Diana’s side through most of the movie, it’s highly unlikely Antiope and the Amazon Queen Hippolyta would feature in anything more than flashbacks.
Unleashing The Cheetah
An exciting reveal from the new Wonder Woman trailer is the introduction of Cheetah, played by actress/comedian Kristen Wiig. The trailer reveals that Diana and Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah, are friends and colleagues early on in the movie, until Minerva goes rogue. The trailer goes on to show glimpses of an epic fight between Wonder Woman and Cheetah!
Further, we hear a voiceover conveying the wish stone’s ability to grant any wish. We believe this voice to be business magnate, Maxwell Lord. In a blink and miss moment, you can see the stone on Lord’s table (another leak that’s doing the rounds!) The evil tycoon is seen in a later scene with Cheetah, a clear sign of the two scheming together.
A Weakened Wonder Woman
The trailer then shows Diana fighting off security guards, while in another scene, Minerva easily deflects Diana’s bracelet power-move, without even needing to be in full Cheetah mode, adding to speculation about a weakened Amazon warrior who seems to have lost her powers. Could this be the result of a wish made to bring back an old lover? However, the trailer also features a Diana savagely lasso-ing her way through thunder.

It could be an interesting tussle between duty and love for the Amazon princess. While she sacrifices her powers to see Steve again, Minerva gains them by sacrificing her humanity.
But That’s Not All
Although seeing the Cheetah in her element was the icing on the trailer for most fans, DC claims that Wonder Woman’s gold-winged armor is the big reveal they had been keeping under wraps for so long. The introduction of Cheetah into the DCEU has got many fans excited, especially considering her history as Diana’s arch-nemesis.
Although the Cheetah excited fans the most in the trailer, DC claims that Wonder Woman’s golden armor is the biggest reveal.
Wonder Woman 1984 is set to hit cinemas around the world on the 2nd of October. The movie features Gal Gadot as Diana, Kristen Wiig as Cheetah, Chris Pine reprises his role as Steve Trevor and Pedro Pascal is the evil genius, Maxwell Lord.
