Stung by a series of Twitter posts by the US President Donald Trump on the yellow vest protests, France has asked him to stop interfering in their personal matters.
Trump had tweeted, “People do not want to pay large sums of money, much to third world countries (that are questionably run), in order to maybe protect the environment. Chanting ‘We Want Trump!’ Love France.”
He later tweeted on Saturday on the yellow vest protests, “Very sad day & night in Paris. Maybe it’s time to end the ridiculous and extremely expensive Paris Agreement and return money back to the people in the form of lower taxes?”

On Sunday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian asked Trump to desist from interfering in French politics, and stated, “We do not take domestic American politics into account and we want that to be reciprocated.”
Actually, the Paris climate agreement is a bone of contention between France and US ever since Trump moved back on it, but the yellow vest protests in France have more to do with rising fuel prices.
An increase in taxes is one reason for the this rise in fuel prices, as France is looking to shore up its resources in order to shift to a low carbon economy.
Will embattled Facebook pass the test of Elections 2019?

Social networking site Facebook started off wonderfully, as a fantastic platform to stay in touch with friends and family. But the way it has evolved has alienated many.
In addition, 2018 has been a hellish year for the company as it has been stung by one controversy after another — data misuse of millions of users by Cambridge Analytica, release of documents by UK parliamentarians on Facebook’s data policies and the allegations that Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg authorised specific research on George Soros.
Experts around the world are pressing for more control of organisations like Facebook, and India is no different. For instance, Mishi Choudhary, legal director of Software Freedom Law Center in the US and Mishi Choudhary and Associates, a New Delhi-law firm, comments, “The contrast between Facebook’s public statements and private strategies to monetise user data reveals the truth of surveillance capitalism carried out stealthily and steadily.”
This could certainly pose a challenge to Facebook in the upcoming election year in India, even as it tries to have a more transparent political advertising policy and address the fake news allegations on Facebook as well as WhatsApp. To tackle this, the company is announcing some targeted initiatives to ensure transparency of political ads and avoidance of foreign interference.
For instance, it has added a feature wherein anyone running a political ad will have to confirm his/her identity, location and also details of who is placing the ad. Sarah Clark Schiff, Product Manager at Facebook, comments, “This is key as we work hard to prevent abuse on Facebook ahead of India’s general elections next year.”

Uday Kotak, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank has expressed his views on the merits and demerits of demonetisation, two years after the controversial exercise took place. On the flip side, he feels that the execution left much to be desired.
He feels that some simple things could have been better thought through. For instance, Kotak has criticised the idea of introducing Rs 2,000 notes when notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 were being scrapped. Kotak was speaking at the launch of the book by Arvind Subramanian, former chief economic adviser in Mumbai.

He further added that the authorities should have ensured that adequate notes of the right denomination were made available. However, Kotak has also credited demonetisation for the increase in financial savings, which also implies challenges in terms of risk management.
He appreciated the efforts being taken by the government for SMEs, mentioning that the sector is going through a lot of pain.

Anish Sarkar, CEO, Mercer India also feels that the positive trend of hiring will continue next year, similar to the last two years. He added, “Besides the demand for key skills like sales, research and development become predominant.”
On the burning question of how artificial intelligence would impact employment outlook, Mustafa Faizani, Mercer Zone leader for India, Middle East and Africa said that while the technology will lead to displacement of jobs, it will also lead to additions. However, it will be a major challenge to reskill people who lose jobs and place them in jobs that will be in synch with the new economy. He also added that AI is currently being leveraged by companies for credit approvals, predicting defaults and preventing money laundering. AI has indeed quickened the approval process for loans.
