As the Delhi Election 2020 playfield hots up, Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh exposes the BJP’s divisive, dirty poll tactics in an explosive interview with DKODING Media.
Singh talks about the divisive nature of BJP’s narratives, sparking communal tension by linking the countrywide unrest with Delhi elections and polarizing voters in the name of Shaheen Bagh.
On Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party’s Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh sat outside Nirvachan Sadan holding a placard stating, ‘take action against the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders for calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a ‘terrorist’.’
Singh along with the party’s Pankaj Gupta has submitted a memorandum to CEC against BJP’s ‘terrorist’ remark. We met him a day ahead of his protest on Thursday after a press conference he held at Aam Aadmi Party’s office at Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg.
“BJP leaders – from Manoj Tiwari to Pravesh Verma – called Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal a ‘terrorist’. In reality, BJP is an agenda-less (Mudda-Viheen) party. They have no road map or plans for Delhi. Like a lost soul, they try to spark controversies like these with no effect on the public of Delhi,” he rages.
Singh is also National Spokesperson for AAP, citing example of AAP’s reforms in the Capital city he further elaborates, “They don’t dare to talk about free education, medical facilities, water, electricity or free bus rides to women, which we have done. When asked, they say that they’ll stop all free services.”
In the last five years of its tenure, Arvind Kejriwal’s government has provided free pilgrimages for the elderly, better education for children, and constructed new schools, hospitals, and Mohalla Clinics, etc. Whereas BJP at centre is still deploying tactics of dirty politics, “The language (Bhasha-Shaili) of the BJP leaders is a clear sign of mental instability in lack of leadership,” he comments.
Here, excerpts from our conversation with AAP’s Sanjay Singh.
What is your opinion on the current state of the country under the BJP government in the centre?
BJP’s formula of running a government is to benefit only a small group of people. They only think of providing benefits to the likes of Adani and Ambani without caring about the common people. All the policies, incentives, tax relaxations, etc. are given to big businessmen.
Today the common people of this country need to be empowered and for that, you’ll need to reduce inflation, create new jobs. In the coming times, lots of people in Railways, HAL, BHEL, ONGC, other petroleum agencies are going to lose their jobs. Their tendency to sell everything will only increase unemployment and other things and they have no road map or plan to tackle this.
Increasing inflation, low jobs for youngsters, high NPA of banks, shutting down public sectors – are the actual talking points which BJP doesn’t want to discuss. In this situation, BJP diverts the mind of people by bringing useless plans.
BJP leaders have tried to play the communal card with attempts to link AAP with the Shaheen Bagh sit-in protest. What are your thoughts on it?
This shows you the real face of the BJP. Shaheen Bagh protest is on the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Act. The central government needs to work on this issue. Six months ago, BJP was adamant on providing justice to Muslim women on the issue of ‘triple talaq’. In UP elections, they believed that votes of the Muslim women made them win 325 seats.
So, shouldn’t BJP go to Shaheen Bagh where the same Muslim women are protesting and talk to them? A party in a democracy must talk to the people protesting and provide solutions to their problems. But the BJP is silent on this. They say, they’ll provide a solution after 11th which means they want the protest to continue and not provide any solutions.
How do you think the recent developments will affect the results when Delhi goes to polls on 8th February?
No effect. You’ll see when the election results come. Delhi’s public will vote only on the basis of electricity, water, medical facilities, education, roads, flyovers, etc. They will vote on the factors that brought a change in their life. BJP will fail in their tactics. To reiterate, they bring such tactics because they have no roadmap.
There is no competition. We are talking about the work we have done – issuing guarantee cards for free electricity in the next 5 years; free education, medical facilities, water, bus rides, the farishtey scheme, etc. On the other hand, BJP has nothing substantial to tell. They don’t have even a single accomplishment.
The BJP is experiencing a threat because they don’t have any plans. It’s a party which has betrayed people by giving false promises of ‘bringing back black money (kaala-dhan), ‘employment to 2 crore youngsters’, ‘reduction inflation’ (prices of diesel, petrol, onions, tomatoes, milk, etc. have all gone up). Delhi’s people will teach them a lesson.
BJP heavyweights Amit Shah and Narendra Modi have entered the campaign field. How will this impact voter sentiment?
Amit Shah is leading the Delhi elections for BJP. But insulting Delhi students, their parents and teachers – that’s what he is doing. How can the country’s home minister release fake videos of people who are toiling hard?
UN’s former secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon came to see our Mohalla Clinics. Kofi Annan also praised them. News about Mohalla clinics can even be found in The New York Times. Earlier people used to say ‘Learn from America’ and now America is learning form Kejriwal. This is the difference we have created through our governance. It’s there for everyone to see.
Do you think the 2020 Elections in Delhi will be a repeat of the record 2015 clean sweep that AAP achieved in its electoral debut?
Delhi’s public has seen the work that the Kejriwal government has done in the last 5 years. We have a ‘report card’ for the work done in the last five years and a ‘guarantee card’ for what work we have planned for the next 5 years.
Due to this, the public is praising us. We had a ‘jan-sanvaad’ program named ‘Aapan Purvanchal’. I myself did more than 100 public discussions. Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai went to different societies while Arvind Kejriwal himself is conducting various town-hall meetings. The public’s response is highly encouraging and they are appreciating us. I feel that Delhi’s public is going to break the record of 2015 in 2020.
