Marvel’s Black Panther was a huge success for many reasons. From immersive storytelling to the stunning CGI effects, the movie perfectly blended Afrofuturism with undertones of real-life African American struggles. However, only a few things in the movie impressed as much as it’s villain, Eric Killmonger played by actor Michael B. Jordan. While fans expect him to reprise the role, rumour mills suggest he might be on WB’s list to play the antagonist in DCEU’s Black Adam.
MBJ is not new to the superhero-verse. Even before entering the MCU he was part of Fox’s Fantastic Four. While his Human Torch failed miserably, Jordan brought certain charisma and unpredictability to his portrayal of Killmonger that resonated very well with audiences.

Rumours Has It
Now as per a new rumour, Michael B Jordan is eyed by the WB studio to star in the Black Adam. Apparently, he is shortlisted by the studio for the role of Hawkman. In fact, Ryan Reynolds was studio’s first choice to play the part as they seek to capitalize on his friendship with friend and co-star Dwayne Johnson. But Reynolds’ recently gunned down the rumour in a tweet.
DC’s Black Adam features Hawkman as the antagonist of the movie. WB’s casting is looking for an actor who the audience can believe can go toe to toe with Johnson. In comics, Hawkman has several reincarnations from an Egyptian god to human. The most popular iteration of the comic book character is Carter Hall. In the comic ‘Black Reign’ storyline showcases the conflict between Black Adam’s JSA and Hawkman.

In Black Panther Jordan’s portrayal of the antagonist, Killmonger possesses elite level military training, peak-level strength and a genius-level intellect. He is capable of taking attacks from stronger foes and fall from heights that would kill or injure a normal person, with little to no injury. Given Jordan’s strong portrayal of Killmonger, it’s not hard to believe he can be a worthy opponent of Black Adam.
Killmonger’s Return To The MCU
As Phase 4 of the MCU prepares to hit the screens, seems like Marvel’s Multiverse is going to be the answer to connect a lot of storylines. Further, it could also serve as a resurrection point for certain heroes & villains that had already been killed off. Hence, there is a possibility of Eric Killmonger making a return through Dr Strange’s Multiverse of Madness.
The MCU has fully embraced magic by now, so it isn’t outside the realm of possibility. The Ancestral Plane in Black Panther exists as a sort-of magic world where the living can visit the souls of the departed former kings of Wakanda. While Killmonger burned all the purple flowers in his brief reign, some flowers were secretly preserved.

After Killmonger defeats T’challa in ritual combat for the throne, he announces his plan to start a global revolution and abandon Wakanda’s isolation policies. While stating his case, he gives specific instructions to supply Wakandan operatives in London, New York, and Hong Kong with Vibranium weapons.
But what makes these three particular cities stand out?
The cities also happen to be the locations of the three sanctums where Stephen Strange’s allies operate. The New York sanctum was featured heavily in Doctor Strange and even appeared briefly in Thor: Ragnarok. The mere mention of the three locations in Black Panther had fans wondering if the Wakandans are also aware of the sanctums and have been keeping tabs on magic users for ages.
Knowing how Marvel loves to drop clues at different points that ultimately tie to a greater plot, it’d be interesting to see what relationship the Magical sanctums in those three cities have with whatever plan Killmonger set in motion during his reign.
Nevertheless, there’s a possibility that Killmonger might return through the Ancestral Plane in Black Panther’s sequel, albeit in a cameo role. However, with so many other exciting characters like Namor and The Submariner waiting to enter the MCU, it’s not likely that Killmonger would be used in any major villain plot going forward. So there are chances that if offered, Michael B Jordan would be happy to pick up the DCEU role since Ryan Reynolds is certainly not playing it.
Black Panther 2 is still in its development phase with a release date scheduled for sometime in 2022. However upcoming DC FanDome will tell us whether Michael B Jordan will be Black Adam’s Hawkman or lest who will be.
