CW’s Supernatural has successfully wrapped up its finale shoot in British Columbia. Supernatural Season 15 which halted midway due to the virus will resume airing on October 8.
Supernatural is one of the longest-running series on TV. The final season recently finished its production under COVID-19 protocols in the US and Canada. When the pandemic struck, the show halted midway and the penultimate episodes that serve as the finale of some 300 plus episode run could not be finished.
Co-showrunner Robert Singer told Variety, “Normally, an episode takes eight days to shoot, but they did the two remaining episodes over nine days each to allow for delays.” Around 360 people who were involved in pre-production were tested three times a week. He further explained the production process, “Once we were ready to shoot, no one was allowed on the actual shooting set other than the actors and me and the director of photography,” Singer said.

The Supernatural Finale
Running a show for 15 years and retaining freshness is not a small feat. This writer was a fresh teen when first introduced to demonic fantastical world in Supernatural Season 1. And 15 seasons down the line, the show is as vintage as Dean’s Impala yet relatable! Surely, the series had its ups and downs but would snatch you back in, to binge from the scratch!
Earlier this year when the announcement was made by WB about the show’s conclusion after Season 15, nobody knew that a pandemic will put the world on a halt! But Singer feels they are going out on their own terms. He said, “We wanted to go out while we still felt we had a fastball. Going out on your own terms is a good thing.”
Supernatural has been the cornerstone of WB’s Network. Stars of the show, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins, have enjoyed international fame and a solid fan base over the years. The story of Winchester brothers Sam and Dean has kept fans engaged from the very first episode. Collins joined the cast in guest appearance in season 4 and has been a series regular ever since.
Inside The Last Few Episodes
WB recently released some new images from the upcoming episodes. The episode titled ‘Last Holiday’ sees Dean, Sam and Jack celebrate everything from Halloween to Thanksgiving. Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb previewed it as a ‘happy hour’ for fans returning to the show. “As a way to kind of come back into the story after, the last six, seven months, I think coming in with something a little lighter and enjoyable is going to be a really good appetizer for what’s to come, because what’s to come, let’s just say, it may not all be super fun,” he said.
And ‘not fun’ seems to be the theme of the Supernatural Season 15 finale. Not just Dabb but actor Misha Collins too foreshadowed the fate of finale in similar fashion previously. She told Cinemablend “You know, Dean is still mad at Cas because Dean still thinks Cas is responsible for his mother’s death, and there’s just a lot of tension going into the final season. And it’s not gonna really let up. I can tell you that it’s not a real conventional happily-ever-after ending on this show.” Similarly, Jensen Ackles feels the ending is going to be very emotional, and that doesn’t necessarily mean ‘happy’.
So looks like while fans can rejoice that the show is coming back, they would have to gear up for a bittersweet finale of an era of loyalty! But the recent comments from the cast do leave hope for us to see them again beyond the finale.
