As per an initial survey conducted by the Lokniti-CSDS for the Indian Express, the voter mood in Delhi smells of a strong majority for the Arvind Kejriwal-led liberal reformist government.
Nine of ten responding voters in the survey are satisfied with the AAP government in Delhi.
As per the survey conducted on 2,298 voters in 115 polling stations across 23 Constituencies between November 22 and December 3, 2019, it was found that nine of ten voters are satisfied with the AAP government in Delhi.
Regular Supplies and Significantly lesser Bills
61% of the responding voters believe they have benefited from the Delhi government’s water-related arrear waivers. Two-thirds of Delhi’s surveyed voters said that water bills gave decreased or become zero and the opinion cuts across class.
Nearly 72% opined an improved or ‘good as before’ water supply. However, drinking water quality is a parameter where work will be left to do for AAP in the second term with 41% reporting a poor or deteriorating water quality.
77% saw decreased or zero electricity bills
Likewise, 77% of the surveyed voters have witnessed a decrease in electricity bills of zero bills. This parameter also was similar among the high- and low-income groups of Delhi. Around 87% reported improved electricity supply in their area.
AAP’s overall healthcare performance – 7.06/10
Over 26% in Delhi have visited one from the 300 mohalla clinics that AAP opened more than one time. Furthermore, among the poorer class, the number increase to 49%. 25% of the high income have also visited mohalla clinics at least once. In fact, 91% expressed satisfaction with the services at mohalla clinics.
The satisfaction index runs similarly high for government hospital treatment too. Two-thirds also believed that government hospital treatment is lesser of a pinch on the pocket. Two-thirds also backed AAP’s claim that mosquito-borne diseases like dengue had decreased in Delhi.
Overall, the surveyed voters rated AAP’s healthcare performance at 7.06 on a scale of 10.
AAP’s overall score on the education front – 7.7/10
In households with kin in a Delhi government school which counted as 25% of the surveyed respondents (belonging to lower-income groups), 90% believed there was immensely better education being imparted in Delhi schools. 80% opine that improved infrastructure has increased the confidence of students.
AAP’s overall score on the education front is also overwhelmingly positive at 7.7 on a scale of 10.
Modi and BJP in the Centre is Fine, But Delhi Voters wants to keep Arvind Kejriwal and AAP in the State
Lastly, envisioning Arvind Kejriwal as the leader of the state government, Delhi’s voters from the survey do not wish for a change. While Delhi’s voters do like Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister, they see AAP as the best choice in the capital.
The parameters where AAP’s first stint has fared best are the performance of MLAs and their work, programs, and promises. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is widely accepted by Delhi voters. Kejriwal (42%) is a little more popular than Modi (32%) when it comes to state elections, which shows the prudent judgment of Delhi’s voters.
The Lokniti-CSDS and Indian Express survey opined that in voters’ perception, the Delhi government has done well.
AAP’s focused on core issues like health and education where it also allocated 40% of its resources. The achievements, as the pre-poll survey proves, haven’t gone unnoticed. Indeed, the focus on health, education, electricity, and water seems to have paid off for the AAP government with extremely high favourability as we near the state elections next year.
