The dreaded Coronavirus outbreak is at the door. While India has not yet had an explosion in the number of infections, the country is braced. It’s not a matter of if but when.
As outbreaks explode from east to west, India has till now managed to keep the dreaded COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak at bay. India’s Coronavirus infections, with 130 crore people, has till now only seen 125 cases and 3 deaths. In these 17 are foreign nationals. The government claims that the outbreak is mostly due to imported cases and not a community spread. But the fear is bigger than ever. Pictures from the Coronavirus lockdown show social distancing and shutdowns are gradually taking over the country.
The relatively low number has made many to question if the infection is spreading untested. That has added to the hysteria even if PM Narendra Modi wants his country to “Say No to Panic, Say Yes to Precautions.” Experts are wary of believing that India has managed to escape a full-fledged outbreak.
The authorities are using technology – GPS, CCTV footage and cell phone records to track and trace infected people. From banks, restaurants and churches to schools, swimming pools, gyms, athletic arenas, malls and movie theatres are all being shut. India was the first country to close borders, and cancel visas. The fears that community transmission is taking off are not unfounded. Here are some images from India’s Coronavirus Lockdown.
