Main man Himanta Biswa Sarma has two aims – 1) Majority Victory for BJP; 2) Uproot Congress from Northeast
- Northeast’s political kingpin Himanta Biswa Sarma proclaimed that BJP and allies will have a runaway victory in the region
- Sarma decided against contesting in the Lok Sabha polls from Assam on the advice of National Chief Amit Shah
- The convener of the BJP-led NEDA was given the bigger responsibility for ensuring a sweeping victory for BJP in Northeast
- The popular leader of the masses is campaigning tirelessly and drawing massive crowds for his party’s candidates in the region.
The voice everywhere is loud and clear. We are marching towards a Congress-Mukt India and let #Tezpur be no different.

The astute and calculative BJP strategist Himanta Biswa Sarma is in ‘Election’ mode. The Assam Cabinet Minister issued a statement of confidence and conviction, while campaigning in Dibrugarh – BJP will have runway victories on 19-21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats that the seven states command.
In an interview with ANI, Sarma said he was relishing in the responsibility put on his shoulders by National President Amit Shah. Sarma opined that the people of the states wanted to see Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a long time. He said the Northeast Cadre is marching ahead with this mission in mind.
Himanta Biswa Sarma campaing for BJP Candidate Moni Madhab in Kaliabor, AssamSarma also predicted a complete wipe out of the Congress from Northeast, asserting that the citizens of North East have rejected the Congress Party’s ideology.
Sarma is not contesting for the Lok Sabha Elections himself. After initially being in the foray for the Tezpur seat, Sarma decided not to contest on Amit Shah’s suggestion. Sarma is a youth icon in the Northeast and is focused on the ‘bigger responsibility’ of guiding the BJP’s alliance in the region to maximum seats in the upcoming polls.
On internal cracks in the NEDA and his mission of 21 out of 25
BJP-led North-East Democratic Alliance, with Sarma as the convener, is in power in six of the seven states.
Sarma stressed that the main motive of alliances is forming governments. Wherever BJP is in direct contest with Congress, the NEDA is the party’s weapon to ensure majority.
But the party will be fielding its own candidates on two to four seats against NEDA allies, where Congress is not the main opposition. Sarma believes it’s a win-win situation which will help him achieve 21 seats.
On Arunachal Assembly elections and the Citizenship Bill
Sarma is convinced that the Citizenship Bill is not the issue on voter minds during elections. He said:
There are issues where people have different opinions. But when it is time for elections, people worry about the country, Jammu and Kashmir, Ujjawala, Ayushman. People worry about schemes.
As per the NEDA Convener, while no concrete response was given on the Mumbai terror attacks, Prime Minister’s befitting reply on Pulwama attack was endorsed by the people.
He asserted that people of North-East are patriotic, and will once again prove it by voting for the BJP.
On the slim chances of Congress in the Region
As per Sarma, Northeast has already become Congress-free. He added that it the Congress party will be wiped out in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections as the ideology of his former party has been rejected by the Northeast voter.
