Bill Gates has decided to dedicate his time towards finding the cure of pandemic coronavirus
Microsoft founder Bill Gates is stepping down from the board of directors to focus on the philanthropic work. The decision comes as Covid-19 epidemic grips the world. Gates feels the need to prioritize humanitarian work in order to help the world overcome one of the greatest challenges.
Bill Gates last year predicted that the world isn’t ready for an epidemic. The outbreak of coronavirus and now the pandemic status but confirms his words and vision. Now with the global shutdown, economies crashing and cases sprouting up each day—the globe need all the help it can get.
Choosing Covid-19 over Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway
According to a company statement going forward, Gates plans to spend his time tackling global health, climate change, education and development. Gates has transitioned out of everyday activities of Microsoft to spend more time at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He will continue as the technological advisor to CEO Satya Nadella the statement mentions.
Bill Gates founded Microsoft with a ‘passion to solve society’s pressing challenges,’ CEO Satya Nadella said in the statement. Nadella further mentions that he looks forward to Gates ‘mission to empower every person and organization on the planet.’ With Gates’ departure, the Microsoft Board will now consist of 12 members.
Mentioning that the company will always be an important part of his life’s work Bill Gates mentions he is looking forward to the next phase to effectively prioritise his commitment to ‘address world’s toughest challenges.’ He further adds, “I am looking forward to maintaining the friendships and partnerships that have meant the most to me, continue to contribute to two companies of which I am incredibly proud of.”
Gates is stepping down from Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Board too. He would be replaced by another board member Kenneth Chenault, Facebook Board member and former American Express CEO.
Bill and Melinda Gates foundation Fast Tracks R&D for Coronavirus Cure
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have joined hands with Mastercard and Welcome Trust to accelerate the research and development of the coronavirus cure. Through his foundation, Bill Gates aims to fast track the development, and production of the treatment for the people worldwide.
Gates, the second richest man on the planet after Amazon owner Jeff Bezos is actively working as a philanthropist since 2008. He has done exceptional work in climate change, healthcare, education initiatives and development of industries.
