A teacher from Arizona sentenced for repeatedly having sex with a 13 yr old student
Brittany Zamora, a former Arizona teacher was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison for having sex multiple times with one of her students, who was a young boy aged 13 years only.
Zamora will spend the rest of her life on probation and must also register as a sex offender. She will receive credit for more than 400 days she has already spent behind bars.
Zamora had pleaded guilty to sexual conduct with a minor, as well as other reduced charges of public indecency and molestation, according to court records, for having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy in her classroom at Las Brisas Academy.
At her sentencing, Zamora said, “I am a good person and genuine person who made a mistake and regret it deeply.”
“I lived my life respecting and trying to obey every law. I’m not a threat to society.”
She added that her actions were out of character and that she would like to attend counseling and start a new career when she is out of prison.
Zamora groomed the boy in a series of text messages before meeting him for sex.
The parents of the boy found out the married Zamora was having sex with their son after they began monitoring his phone with an app.
After warning came from the app, they confronted their son who told them he had been having sex with Zamora.
A victim impact statement from the mother read: “Brittany Zamora betrayed our trust and changed Victim A forever. Before, he was an innocent child, and now she stole his innocence from him. I hate Brittany Zamora for what she did to my son and family.”
“To Brittany Zamora, I hope you spend every waking moment in your prison cell thinking about the horrendous crime you committed that got you behind bars,” the statement read.
“Now you’ll spend the rest of your youth and most of your adulthood in jail… I will not allow you to interfere in my son’s life further. Good triumphs over evil and you’re just a dark shadow and our family will defeat you.”
When she was arrested, Zamora told cops she feared for her safety behind bars.
She told officers: “I’m little. They’re going to tear me apart,” before asking for an attorney.
