Bollywood actors including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan, and filmmaker Karan Johar have hailed government’s decision to reduce GST on cinema tickets.
GST council on 22 Dec 2018 announced its decision to make film tickets cheaper. Movie tickets priced up to Rs 100 will now attract GST at a rate of 12 percent, instead of the earlier 18 percent. While the tax rates for movie tickets above Rs 100 has been brought down to 18% from the 28% fixed by the GST Council last year.
The decision came days after a meeting of members representing the Indian film industry with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss issues plaguing the business.
