SAMRT PHONES

WARNING : Your  Smartphone can turn you permanently blind.

The blue light emitted from the digital devices can cause total blindness.

If you are habitual of sleeping with your smartphone and checking notifications in bed, browsing through social media late at night, the latest research has confirmed your mother’s worst fear. You heard that right your phone can do irreversible damage to your eyes.

Yes, the blue light, emitted from our digital devices damages the eye’s retina and which may even accelerate total blindness in some cases. This happens because blue light transforms and converts vital molecules in the eye’s retina into cell killers. Researchers confirm that its no longer a secret that blue light harms our vision by damaging the eye’s retina and they are working on developing both prevention and cure therapies for this macular degeneration.

Macular degeneration in recent times has become one of the leading causes of blindness in the US and is caused by the death of photoreceptors cells. These cells present in the eyes are light-sensitive and need molecules known as retinal to sense light, enabling us to see. If you expose blue light on the retinal, it kills photoreceptor cells. Photoreceptor cells do not regenerate in the eye. Once they’re dead, they’re dead for good.

For prevention, apply blue-light filters to all your digital devices including the most frequently used smartphones and laptops.

Refrain from using your smartphone or tablet in the dark. Make a simple no phones in bed rule, or better go a step ahead and ban all digital devices from entering your bedroom altogether. The researchers also advised people to wear sunglasses that filter blue light. Limiting the exposure to blue light is not only good for your eyes, but it will also help you sleep better and faster. This is because exposing our eyes to the bright light of phones prevents our brains from releasing melatonin, the same hormone that is responsible for regulating sleep.

These changes must be incorporated in our lifestyle necessarily  now that we know how much damage addiction to this little device can cause. At the end of the day its your eyesight that is at stake.
