Heads Up! Spider-Man is in search of Daredevil but it isn’t an easy one in the MCU
- Marvel-Sony Spider-Man Deal
- Marvel-Netflix Daredevil Disagreement
- The Search for Daredevil Continues
Marvel-Sony Spider-Man Deal
There has been quite a lengthy legal feud-time between Sony and Marvel Studios concerning the rights to the Spider-Man character. The original deal in 2015 between Sony-Disney-Marvel Studios involving the distribution rights of Spider-Man movies ended in 2019.
It wasn’t after a lot of petitioning and public outcry did they finally agree on a deal that would allow the character crossover into the MCU.
This deal allowed Spide-Man to feature in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame with the character also heavily tied to various storylines across Phase 4 and 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, with Spiderman: Far From Home ending with the young superhero in search of a lawyer. Someone who could help clear his name after he was framed for killing Mysterio. There is a strong buzz amongst fans to see him enlist the help of Hell’s kitchen vigilante, Daredevil.
Marvel-Netflix Daredevil Disagreement
Played by Charlie Cox in the three seasons before the series was cancelled. Daredevil in the Netflix series set a pretty balanced adult tone to the superhero vibe and became a fan-favourite.
Despite all the positivity, Cox has come out to state that if there is going to be a Daredevil appearance in the third Spider-Man instalment, it probably wouldn’t be him.
The murky waters between Netflix and Marvel have prevented any discussions around that line from bearing fruit even though the characters are eager to share a big screen. The Netflix Marvel disagreement led to the shutting down of the franchise after its third season in 2018. Along with a couple of other Marvel shows.
The Search for Daredevil Continues
Although we do not know yet what direction the third Spidey movie will swing. It is possible that the lack of decision on the Daredevil franchise coupled with the Coronavirus pandemic is responsible for the delay of the next movie instalment.
This, in turn, has caused Disney and Marvel Studios to push forward the release dates of the next instalments for both Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Madness.
Undoubtedly, Daredevil is an important part of the MCU’s supernatural universe especially considering his links to Doctor Strange and The Punisher amongst others. So it will be interesting to see what decision Marvel decides to take in the coming months.
If indeed we do see Daredevil on the MCU big screens, it will most likely be played by a new actor.
