SDCC has announced virtual convention for 2020, ‘Comic-Con at Home’ — Fans await Marvel Studio’s announcements. But will they attend?
Comic convention fans around the world were bummed when Comic-Con 2020 was cancelled this summer due to the Coronavirus. But now, they have news to rejoice and lots of questions to be answered. Recently Comic-Con International’s social media handles announced Comic-Con at Home.
Highlights! San Diego Comic-Con announces its first virtual convention this summer 2020.
- SDCC surprised fans with #ComicConatHome Announcement
- Marvel Studios has rumoured new projects to announce
- Disney’s D23 Expo is scheduled for 2021
The Comic Fest has decided to go digital for movie and comic book aficionados. What makes it more interesting for comic book lovers around the world is that Marvel Studios’ use SDCC’s platform to announce their upcoming projects and updates. They are also notorious to avoid the Comic-Con when the studio wants to keep its secrets intact before or after a movie.
Since the announcement of the event, nerds can’t help but wonder, will Marvel Studio attend the Comic-Con at Home 2020?
Comic-Con at Home Announcement
Better known as SDCC, the comic convention will go live for the first time in its history. Traditionally people wait for summer to attend the convention dressed as their favourite character. This year, however, they’d be dressed up in front of their screens.
On Saturday, Comic-Con international announced the digital event in the most epic way. The virtual-event announcement video said:
Coming Soon…Free Parking. Comfy Chairs. Personalized Snacks. NO LINES. PETS WELCOME. BADGES FOR ALL. AND A FRONT ROW SEAT TO..Comic-Con At Home
The Tweet that welcomes pets to the convention also promised viewers free parking, comfy chairs, and a front-row seat – See you this summer! #ComicConAtHome, the tweet read.
SDCC is following the ‘virtual route’ amid the Coronavirus pandemic. With quarantine and social distancing at many comic books, gaming, film and television conventions have been postponed or outright cancelled. Some have taken a digital route and SDCC is apparently set to do the same.
Marvel Studios Rumoured New Project Announcement
The Big question now is whether Marvel Studios will hold a panel during Comic-Con at Home 2020?
There are numerous rumours surrounding new projects Marvel Studios is undertaking. It’s said that the studio is developing new superhero projects like Secret Invasion, Secret Warriors, Ghost Rider, Iron Heart.
If these sources are, anything to go by then a panel and an announcement from Marvel Studio Head Kevin Feige is imminent. Nothing can beat the kind of happiness the news can bring in these otherwise dreadful times.
However, given the status of the industry and in the absence of any new production guidelines the chances look bleak. The House of Mouse has ‘no projections’ about when to resume Marvel movie production. Although the Phase 4 and 5 schedules have seen many ups and downs there is no news about the schedule of Disney Plus shows that Marvel is developing.
Marvel has always used SDCC Hall H to major announcements, tease upcoming movies, and deliver special experiences to fans. Conversely in 2018 and 2015, the studio just sat out as a break year.
Some fans also believe that Marvel will skip Comic-Con and will hold a panel at D23. It makes more sense for the Studio to hold a panel when there are ‘projections’ about Marvel movie and TV production.
In times like these, the SDCC appearance of the studio will only bring joy to the fans. And since fan service has always been important Marvel can’t sit it out when the world needs its superheroes more than ever!
