Marvel Studio is working on a Weapon X Disney+ series to introduce Wolverine and the X-Men into the MCU
Wolverine is one of the most important characters in the Marvel universe. Apart from comics, actor Hugh Jackman’s portrayal as Logan has made the character a global phenomenon.
Heads Up! Marvel is planning a backdoor entry for Wolverine via Disney+ series
- Disney’s Delay in Releasing Fox Productions
- Introducing Weapon X on Disney+
- Fact Check, Ultimatum
X-Men came home to Marvel Studios from 20th Century Fox Studio after a long painful wait by both the fans and the studio. So it’s only befitting that the Wolverine along with other X-Men joins the ranks of Marvel superheroes as soon as possible.
Disney’s Delay in Releasing Fox Productions
With Disney Fox acquisitions deal, along with X-Men various characters like R rate Deadpool, The New Mutants. However, given Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 and 5 slates are set uptill 2024. Now more so because of the COVID-19’s impact, it looks like a long painful wait greets the fans again. All the movies have seen some sort of delay.
Rayan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3, which is rumoured to be on the Marvel Studios’ production grid, suffers the same fate. And with the finished production of the New Mutants Disney announced the fourth release date very recently.
But withholding a character like Logan from fans is a crime and Marvel Studios’ knows it. The studio plans to en-cash the popularity of the character. Last week reports surfaced about Hugh Jackman’s nod to play Logan in the MCU once more. However, the actor denied working as a full-time Marvel Studio superhero.
No wonder, Marvel is planning a backdoor entry for another Wolverine along with the X-Men into the MCU via Disney+. (Are you listening Deadpool?)
Introducing Weapon X on Disney+
Marvel Scooper, Roger Wardell, whose previously leaked accurate Avenger: Endgame info has emerged again on Twitter. Though it should be taken with a pinch of salt. This time around he has tweeted about a Weapon X series in the making. He tweeted, “Weapon X Disney+ show planned as a pre-sequel to TFatWS. It will focus not only on Logan’s backstory but also the other members of Weapon Plus program.”
If the scoop is anything to go by Marvel Studio is developing a Wolverine Disney+ series as a prequel to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. This seems to be congruent to the upcoming series’ plotline dealing with Super Soldier Program. Meaning if true, we can see the whole roster of characters from Weapon X program.
In Marvel Comic Universe, Weapon X is a clandestine government genetic research project. The project conducted by the Canadian Government’s Department K, turns willing as well as unwilling people into living weapons. 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine was closer to its comic counterpart.
Fact Check, Ultimatum
The rumoured Marvel’s Disney+ Weapon X series can play a big part in bringing Wolverine and the X-Men into the MCU. Similar events took place in 2009 comic book, Ultimatum. MCU cosmic reported Marvel Studios’ plans of an Ultimatum movie to bring Fantastic Four and X-Men together.
The upcoming Black Widow movie and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier establish the theme of government experiments on humans to create biological weapons. The Russian Red Room and American Super Soldier Programs are just a part of it.
So its plausible that in time we’ll get to see a new actor as Wolverine on the smaller screen to be later introduced in wider MCU movie arc post-2024.
