Fans are losing their mind over the news of actor Jamie Foxx reprising his character ‘Electro’ from Andrew Garfield starring The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Foxx will star in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise, which is a joint production by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. While Coronavirus delayed movie productions this year the movie is set to start rolling in the fall and is set for a release date of 17, December 2021. The director behind the previous two iterations Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Jon Watts is helming the franchise for the third time. Actors reprising their roles in the threequel are Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori.
Stepping Into The Spider-verse
After the renewal of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man contract, Kevin Feige had said that Spider-Man is the only character that can jump universes. What he meant was not in terms to Spider-Man’s power set but he was referring to Tom Holland’s presence in both Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Sony Picture’s Universe Of Marvel Characters (SPUMC).
Sony Pictures that holds the rights to Spider-Man characters is developing its own universe based on them. Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius are part of SPUMC and so is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. However, Holland hasn’t appeared in any of the ‘Sony movies’ per say but the Easter Eggs have started showing up in both the Universe.

MCU Phase 3s closing movie Spider-Man: Far From Home brought back JK Simmon’s character J Jonah Jameson’s from the original Spider-Man trilogy. Though this time he was seen rather differently than his Newspaper editor avatar. The trilogy was helmed by director Sam Raimi who is now working with Marvel Studios on Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Raimi’s association with both projects has presented fans with ample opportunities to speculate.
On the other hand, Morbius trailer had Michael Keaton’s Vulture in it that joins the dots between MCU and SPUMC. The trailer also had a Tobey Mcguire’s Spider-Man mural that someone scrawled “murderer” on. The ‘murderer’ word resonates with Far From Home where Jameson held Spider-Man responsible for Mysterio’s death.
Spider-Man 3 A Spider-verse movie?
Now with Jamie Foxx’s casting as Electro in an MCU Spider-Man movie has brought the universes full circle with all three franchises connecting. By the time Spider-Man 3 arrives, MCU Phase 4 would have embraced the Multiverse in its full glory with Doctor Strange Sequel.

Whilst, fans expect the studios to embrace the Multiverse further with a Spider-verse movie the chances seem scarce. Spider-Man 3 is an MCU canon movie so it can only build towards the plot or introduce it. A full-length Spider-verse movie or a Sinister Six plotline can only be made by Sony for their universe with help of Kevin Feige of course.
