It’s about time we get to see the epic Captain America Vs Red Skull face-off in Marvel Phase 4
Johann Shmidt aka Red Skull is one interesting Marvel villain who has been around as long as Captain America himself. He is now set to return to the MCU. No, we aren’t talking about a spin-off show or any fan fiction movie but it’s a real deal.
Heads Up! Marvel Phase 4 will showcase the epic Red Skull vs Captain America fight
- The Return of Red Skull
- Captain America and Red Skull War
- The Curse of The Soul Stone
- Red Skull Comic Book Origins
Last time we saw Red Skull, it was in Avengers: Endgame when Natasha and Clint visit Vormir to get the Soul Stone. But nothing further about the character was shown once they acquired the soul stone. And ever since fans are speculating his return.
The Return of Red Skull
We Got This Covered, recently reported about Red Skull once again facing off his most formidable foe Captain America. He will reprise in Disney’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. He would pit against actor Anthony Mackie’s iteration of Cap.
Recently, actor Ross Marquand who took over the role from Hugo Weaving too expressed his interest in reprising the character. He hinted at Red Skull’s freedom since the Soul Stone has been claimed. Given Red Skull had plans to dominate the Earth seem like he’ll return to do just that.
That’s where Anthony Mackie’s Captain America comes in. The show will pick up where the Endgame left off and would explore the human experiment theme in the MCU.
It’ll be interesting to see how fans respond to the epic showdown between the new Cap and Red Skull. For long, fans dreamed about a face-off between Chris Evan’s Captain America and Red Skull assuming Cap goes back to return the stone to each timeline.
Captain America and Red Skull War
Red Skull is one of Cap’s most formidable foes as he is the byproduct of the same serum that created Captain America. His body reacted violently to the serum, deforming his physical appearance.
Skull and Cap battled it out in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and. During the fight as Red Skull tries to harness the power of the Cosmic Cube without physical protection. And gets teleported to the planet Vormir to bears the curse of guarding the Soul stone for perpetuity.
However, during Thanos’ crusade, he sacrificed Gamorra to obtain the Soul stone and then proceeded to destroy all the stones (with the stones). During the time heist, the Avengers went back in time and sacrificed Natasha Romanoff aka Black widow to acquire another Soul Stone from Vormir.
As the main plot developed and blossomed, few observed, Red Skull no longer had a stone to watch over. Which means he might be free to leave Vormir.
The Curse of The Soul Stone
Filmmakers tried to make up for it by showing Steve Rogers returned all the stones to their points in the original timeline. However, it isn’t fairly accurate considering Vormir has been visited twice.
Therefore, the Soul stone Vormir holds is the version of the stone destroyed by Thanos in the present timeline.

Without a Soul stone to guard, the curse on Red Skull lifted and now we could either see him make a return to finish what he started or to pursue a new scheme.
Either way, if Marvel Studios decides to spin it in the coming phases, fans would be excited to explore the creative possibilities that abound from reintroducing Red Skull into the fray. Having ample time alone on Vormir allows for speculations that the Skull has had time to plan the perfect revenge. As Cap was the one to return the stones, it is very likely they had a run-in along the way. Exploring that plot in the future would tow along the line of Cap’s adventures while he was away.
Red Skull Comic Book Origins
Shmidt’s story in the comics plays out differently from what we see in the movies. There is enough evidence to give an idea of how a Red Skull return can look like. In the comics, Adolf Hitler trained Skull after sensing his dark nature resulting from a tumultuous childhood.
Shmidt became the Red Skull and carried out successful terrorist attacks across Europe. In response, America creates its own version – Captain America. After suffering several defeats at the hands of Cap, he is trapped in animation for decades. He eventually returns and plots a scheme to assassinate Captain America.
Red Skull’s ruthlessness and intelligence gathered over time would make him an even greater adversary in future Phases and with increased focus on the intergalactic part of the MCU, fans can expect the Red Skull to make an appearance in the not too distant future.
