Steve Rogers and Natasha meet their son James Rogers when Kang the conqueror throws the present timeline into the future. The Next Avengers features a new generation of Avengers in Multiverse… Not so distant thought in the MCU
As much as the Avengers were a team, it isn’t hard to see the different connections and relationships that existed between members of the team. While Wanda and Vision’s relationship took a clearer path, Natasha (Black Widow) had a more complicated relationship.
Natasha and Steve: The Romanoger Dream
From Steve Rogers to Bruce Baner – Natasha’s involvement in the early days of their lives as heroes, made her pretty indispensable as far as they were concerned. She is responsible to get the OG Avengers together on Nick Fury’s command in the first Avengers movie.
Hawkeye and his wife even made Black Widow godmother of their kids. During the Age of Ultron, she had a brief romantic spell with the Hulk. Interestingly, the relationship between Rogers and Natasha hasn’t really been visibly romantic even though they’ve complemented each other at different points with confusing glances.
The chemistry between Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson is so organic that directors exploited it at the best to entice audiences. Moments between Steve and Natasha during Winter Soldier as well as the Civil War made fans totally root for Romanoger! They kept audiences wishing for a script where they get together.
James Rogers – Cap and Natasha’s Son
Marvel’s 2008 animated series, Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow introduced a new generation of Earth’s heroes. The series gained so much popularity amongst fans that the Studio was compelled to introduce them into the comics Multiverse.
Next Avengers timeline is from a post-apocalyptic era where Ultron decimated the Earth. In the alternate universe James Rogers, son of Steve and Natasha, lead the new Avengers. It can be a bit of a brain wrecker especially if you have meticulously followed the movie timeline.
In this dystopian timeline, the Cap and Black Widow aren’t the only ones who had kids. Also on the Next Avengers team is the son of Hawkeye and Mockingbird, Francis Barton. Black Panther and Storm also had a child, Azari T’challa.
Steve and Natasha meet their son when Kang the conqueror throws the present timeline into the future. It makes for quite good drama considering they both never really towed the romantic line.
James Roger in Multiverse
The story has a nice path for exploration though, considering the full potential of James’ powers hasn’t been seen. This is because since the Black Widow is incapable of having children due to her Red Room grooming, James is probably a result of a genetically engineered process. However, it is important to note that the introduction of the Multiverse in the MCU is going to enable many possibilities.
As much as it feels like a bit of a stretch, especially considering how Endgame ended with Natasha dying and Steve growing old, there is still room for the writers to play around a bit in the Multiverse.
Besides, since Black Widow’s solo movie is set to finally reveal what happened in Budapest, perhaps we’ll get in on some juicy romance. Doctor Strange’s Multiverse of Madness and Marvel’s upcoming What if… series that has been delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, will create enough room for Marvel to explore different timeline possibilities.
What direction they decide to tilt is yet to be seen.
