Guardian of the Galaxy Volume 3 will explore Rocket’s traumatizing past and perhaps see him come up against his abusers.
Rocket Raccoon is undeniably the sassiest and most sarcastic superhero we’ve got! Voiced by actor Bradley Cooper, since Rocket’s debut in 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, he has come a long way from being mean and selfish Trash Panda to Endgame’s, last surviving Guardian.
He was originally dubbed subject 89P13 by the alien scientists who abducted him to the Half-World in the Keystone Quadrant star system. He is the product of unclear methods of genetic and cybernetic experimentations.

After figuring out a way to escape from his forced servitude, he teamed up with Groot and became a freelance gun-slinging bounty hunter. This was, in fact, how the bulk of the Guardians’ squad would run into each other.
Rocket Raccoon In The MCU
The events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 begun on the planet Xandar; a highly protected upbeat city where an orb sale goes wrong leading to the arrest of Peter Quill, Gamora, Rocket and Groot. Rocket, who has over 22 counts of criminal theft and jailbreak – spearheads the plan to break out from Nova custody.
Rocket’s sophistication and intelligence allow him to quickly assimilate, analyze and solve problems as fast as possible. His obsession with tech gadgets, weapons and explosives, coupled with his superb fighting abilities make the talking mini-sized creature a formidable opponent.

However, most of the raccoon’s accolades are easily cloaked under his chaotic and needlessly pessimistic approach to pretty much everything. Yet the talking raccoon has solidified, as an important member of the Avengers and the Guardians, is no secret.
Rocket has been involved in important moments of Infinity Saga storyline. He was Thor’s companion to Nidavellir when they needed to forge Stormbreaker. He was at the battle of Wakanda during Thanos’ attack in Avengers: Infinity War, and survived the snap.
The next five years saw him stand guard along with other members of the Avengers and when they figured out how to use time travel to reverse the snap, Rocket went on another mission with his buddy, Thor.
Effect of Rocket’s Past on MCU Phase 5
Rocket was easily involved in a lot of the work process during the Endgame due to his intelligence and versatility. He even whined about it a few times. GOTG Director James Gunn did a great job in adapting the talking raccoon for the big screens. There is a whole lot more responsibility the raccoon might have to shoulder. Answering questions during quarantine Watch party on Twitter, James Gunn talked about the plot of the third instalment and how it will tie into Rocket’s past. He said,
“And the trilogy, more than anything else, is about a group of outsiders who have all experienced childhood trauma”

Most of Rocket’s past has not been explored in the GOTG apart from a brief emotion-filled rant in a space bar. The third volume could explore parts of Rocket’s traumatizing past and perhaps even see him come up against his abusers.

GotG Vol 3 Propelling MCU Phase 5
Death of at least one guardian has been foreshadowed by director James Gunn and fans are worried it might be Rocket.
His journey in the MCU has been a delight and would provide a pivotal point for taking the whole phase forward. GOTG Vol 3 very well be the movie to open MCU Phase 5. During the quarantine watch party Gunn also mentioned Vol 3 will be his and current Guardians’ last stint with the franchise.
Exploring Rocket’s past in the Guardian of The Galaxy Vol 3 can also shed light on several planets like Half-World and Xandar. Fans can also learn more about Nova Corps from Rocket’s multiple encounters with them. In addition, with the present Guardians set to retire in the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, setting up a new Guardians team might require a lot of help from Rocket.
Just like other slated Marvel movies, the pandemic pushed the release date for Guardians of the Galaxy. Although, some reports mention GOTG# filming is set to resume later this year.
