It is one thing to be bitten by the acting bug and another to be bitten by the politics bug. Sunny has been bitten by both. Actor Sunny Deol joined the ruling BJP today, days after he met with the party president Amit Shah.
Sunny is most likely to be the BJP candidate from Gurdaspur in Punjab. Gurdaspur was actually the constituency of the late actor Vinod Khanna.
Lok Sabha Elections 2019 – Will Sunny Deol take Vinod Khanna’s legacy forward!
Special Note by DKODING Guest Writer – Priyanka Srivastava
There have been reports that the actor will be contesting from Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency in Punjab which was once a Congress bastion.
However, the announcement has not been made yet.
The Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency was held by late Bollywood actor and BJP leader Vinod Khanna for four terms until he died in 2017.
Vinod Khanna had won the Gurdaspur general seat for the first time in 1998 on the Bhartiya Janata Party ticket by defeating the Congress’ Sukhbans Kaur. Kaur was the member of Parliament from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat from 1985.
It was won by Sardar Partap Singh Bajwa of the Congress for one term from 2009 to 2014, when Khanna wrested it back.
After Vinod Khanna’s death, Congress Sunil Jakhar won the bypoll in 2017 against the BJP’s Swaran Salaria by a huge margin.

SUNNY DEOL
However, it has been a tussle between BJP and Congress. It is to be seen whether Sunny Deol will be able to wrest the seat back from Congress.
Gadar actor Sunny Deol is the latest from the film fraternity to jump into political fray. The 62-year-old joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi on Tuesday.
It was the charisma of Vinod Khanna which kept the seat with BJP for almost 10 years. Now, only time will tell whether Sunny Deol will be able to take the legacy forward.

Sunny Deol’s father Dharmendra is currently campaigning for wife, actor and BJP lawmaker Hema Malini in Mathura. The veteran actor Dharmendra had a brief stint in politics about ten years ago, when he contested the 2004 national election from Rajasthan’s Bikaner on BJP ticket and won.
The BJP in alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab, is fighting 3 of the 13 parliamentary seats in Punjab: Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur.
Sunny Deol talks about his ‘new role’ in politics
Sunny is the third Deol to join politics after his father Dharmendra and his wife Hema Malini, who are well-known actors. Sunny Deol said in a short speech, “Like my father joined Atal Bihari Vajpayee, I have decided to go with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I want PM Modi for the next five years,”.
Sunny referred to BJP as his family and added:
“Whatever I can do for this family (BJP), I will do it….I won’t talk, I will show you through my work,” Deol added.
Sunny Deol is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wants to serve the country and make a difference. He wants his work to speak for himself.

The actor received a warm welcome into the BJP party by the Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal.
Sunny is fit to ‘play’ politics
The Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman referred to his blockbuster 1997 movie “Border“. “Sunny Deol made the film Border which showed how the feeling of nationalism and patriotism when portrayed beautifully on film can touch a cord with the people,” Ms Sitharaman said.
“It cannot be acting when it comes from the heart,”
Piyush Goyal, Union Minister , Govt. of India
Delivering speeches not dialogues
Movies are different. Being a part of a political party and representing your party is a totally different ball game. And time will tell how the actor will perform in the world of politics. Though all of us know and rightly put by Deepak Kaistha
“The world is a stage and we are all actors- but politics is one stage where you don’t have a script- you have to win the voters by sheer hard work, dedication and sincerity.”
Sunny Deol- Tweets about his political debut
Sunny Deol is an actor par excellence. We are quite sure that he will prove himself in politics and will stay true to his values and ideologies.
