“If a glamorous role comes to me, I’d embrace it with open arms and definitely try it out”, says Dugal
The only thing common between the powerful characters of the sultry Beena Tripathi in ‘Mirzapur’, the demure yet strong-willed politician’s daughter Nutan Yadav of ‘Made in Heaven’ and the strong Niti Singh of ‘Delhi crimes’ is the one portraying them. Rasika Dugal is a name now synonymous with power-packed performances, no matter how big or small. Her characters, as well as their affectivity, are slowly, but surely being noticed by one and all. Her seemingly simple looks and demure aura have been able to percolate through the characters to her audiences. She is a sweet upcoming siren of our changing film industry.
Rasika Dugal doesn’t seemingly believe in shortcuts. Born and educated In Jamshedpur, this Lady Shri Ram College pass-out garnered proper education of the field before entering it. She has attended Sophia Polytechnic for a postgraduate diploma in “Social Communications Media” and FTII for attaining postgraduate diploma in “acting”. In her own words, she is always learning something or the other and she always prefers to attain this learning through formal means like proper coaching, etc.
Versatility of roles
Apart from the famous roles in the various web series, Rasika Dugal is credited for her sharp performances in movies like ‘School Bag’ ( she played the character of a small school going boy who gets later killed terrorist attack) and ‘Manto’, where she plays the female lead protagonist character of a very supportive wife to the famous short story writer, Saadat Hasan Manto caught between the eras of partition. These stories with their de-glam looks, powerful narratives and complex characters required actors with true potential to bring out their true worth. Rasika Dugal did not shy away from these roles that could have stereotyped her in the beginning of her career itself. Rather, she went ahead and delivered praiseworthy performances. These are all makings of a great actor, need we say more
Her work and her sartorial choices have been making waves amongst the Lul of meaningless performances. This immaculate actress makes you love each of her character and its performance unconsciously. Rasika Dugal went on to win the best actress award in Rajasthan film festival for her movie Hamid; raising another bar for her peers to achieve and then the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Foundation award for the best actress in a web series for Mirzapur. This 5 feet 2 inches tall actress has proven herself to be, as we say in our local dialect the ‘Chhota packet Bada dhamaka’ or a punch in small packet size.
Rasika Dugal is married for good to Mukul Chadda, another fact that actresses are not comfortable with in early stages of their carrier. She seems to be managing a perfect work-life balance, with plausible work satisfaction. Rasika Dugal has proved herself as a whiff of fresh air in a smorgasbord of fake fragrances. She works hard for her characters like a true actor, leaving behind the star-ship related to this glamorous industry. She has subtly, but consecutively given world-class performances, without demanding any over the top attention.
Web-seems seem to be her forte. Here too Rasika Dugal has been riding the success bandwagon with ease. Her performances in of three of her web-series have been highly appreciated and are up for follow up on the second season. They are Mirzapur, Delhi Crime and Humorously Yours. A young working female would connect with Kavya from Humorously Yours, in an instant. It is another strong character reaching your television and other smart devices using Mxplayer and TVFplay. We are waiting for the unfolding of her performance in all these series on our end.
