Priyanka Chaturvedi left the ‘Hand’ when things got out of hand

Some moves are political, but this one is personal.

In politics, the chair is stationary. But the people who occupy it keep changing. And so do the reasons. You only attach yourself to a political party you believe in. A party that matches your values and philosophy. Priyanka has been working for Congress and has always admired its Pluralistic Ideology. In one of her interviews Priyanka stated that she has joined the party a decade ago as she believed in liberal politics.

But recently she switched sides. Because she felt the political party was not on her side.

Priyanka was furious with the way a sensitive issue was handled. She was not pleased with the reinstatement of some Congress workers in Uttar Pradesh who had threatened and misbehaved with her in a press conference in Mathura last September.

She moved out of Congress and joined Shiv Sena.

Showing her unhappiness, she lambasted Congress for choosing ‘goons’ and ignoring those who gave their blood and sweat to the party. She had worked hard and always fulfilled her duties, but she felt let down by the party.

In her resignation letter, she said she can’t compromise with self-respect.

“In the last few weeks, certain things have convinced me that my services are not valued in the organisation and I have reached the end of the road. At the same time, I also feel the more time I spend in the organisation, it will be at the cost of my own self-respect and dignity.”

The letter, copied to K C Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala, read:

“What saddens me is that despite the safety, dignity, empowerment of women being promoted by the party and has been your call to action the same is not reflected in the action of some of the members of the party.”

Reports also claimed that Congress ‘forgave’ its unruly members on directions of Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is handling UP West for the party. Apparently, the members expressed regret over their behaviour.

She further stated that no apology was made to her. And even if an apology was made, it was not sent to her or conveyed to her.

She couldn’t let go of the issue, so she had to let go of the party.

Many must have asked her the same question that if she was an asset to the Congress, why did they just let her go?

She answered this question in one of her interviews.

“I left the Congress with no acrimony. A woman politician needs to prioritise issues. No woman should say ‘Okay this happened, let it go.”

Priyanka Chaturvedi – A woman who stood her ground to protect her dignity and honour. Nothing is more important than self respect. And something as serious as misbehaviour can’t be taken lightly.

The Mumbaikar in her

As a Mumbaikar, she is strong headed about such issues. Addressing a press meet, Chaturvedi said:

“I have always been vocal about women empowerment and safety. But I was trolled and abused. My family was threatened. I was sad when I saw a few party leaders attack me. They were suspended earlier by the party. But by reinstating them later, I felt let down. I realised that I will fail several women if I continue.”

“She has a fighting spirit and in her Shiv Sainik’s have got a good sister,” Thackeray added. She had very aggressively put forth her previous party’s stand in national media and I’m sure she will keep doing so for the Shiv Sena as well,” he further said.

“Being a Mumbaikar I’ve always had a soft corner for Shiv Sena,” Priyanka Chaturvedi said during the presser.

Priyanka’s way of jibing, singing.

Priyanka was also trending for singing Kyun ki mantri bhi Kabhi graduate thi‘ for Smriti Irani.

Social media has been actively asking if the same song will apply to her, but this time with a twist – ‘Priyanka Chaturvedi bhi kabhi Congressi thi’.

When she moved to Shiv Sena, many were quick to remind her of her tweet in 2015 in which she had said, ” how can you wake up one fine morning and change your ideology like you change your clothes. Or was your ideology about just being in power.”

It is not about being in ‘power’ but it is about feeling ‘powerless’ when such an unfortunate incident takes place and there is no action. Priyanka rightfully must have felt betrayed and let down by the fact that her contribution was overlooked and people who misbehaved with her were reinstated.

Priyanka Chaturvedi has changed her party and not her ideologies.

Priyanka strongly believes in woman empowerment and their safety. She holds the same ideology and her value system is still the same. She will continue to contribute positively and make a difference wherever she can. While other parties are adding muscle power, Shiv Sena has added strength and courage to their party.
