Karan Johar is the quintessential concoction of a variety of facades and parts, organized- disorganized at various levels. You could connect to any of them, you may like some of them, and you may hate some. He is the literal shy boy of the industry, who went on to become the leader in his own right. On the way, he has had his own set of challenges, issues, perspectives, retrospective, choices, apprehensions, regrets and appreciations. Amidst all this and more, this creative genius has never feared to tread his own path, his own way. So here we are trying to decide the true essence behind the one man Technicolor industry, i.e. Karan Johar.
What an individual chooses to be, should be his or her choice and not of any value to anyone else
THE GUY (The base tequila)
Karan Johar is like the Harry Potter of the cine industry. A regular guy, born into an irregular atmosphere, but pegged for greatness, despite the various circumstances and challenges involved. The real name of Karan Johar is Rahul Kumar Johar. He was a small, fat, shy kid; definitely not the standard Hero material wanted, we expect out if the kids from film fraternity ( Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, etc.). With sheer hard work, some luck and lots of experience (again the perfect margarita of success) he slowly became the personality he is today. But, movies were his one true love. He understood and soon accepted himself. He could tell a tale well, and that is what he has stuck to. Karan Johar, became the powerhouse of hits, one after the another. He has single-handedly made Dharma Production, a power to reckon with, transforming it into a business house. More than that, he seems forth a genuine, bold, contemporary, yet a caring individual who does not takes money and fame for granted, or rather to his head.
THE CINE-KING (The necessary orange liqueur)
He began out as an actor that he was not meant to be. He turned out to be the director, producer, screenwriter, dialogues writer and costume designer that he was meant to be. Few know that Karan Johar started his career in the entertainment industry when he played the role of Shrikant in the 1989 Doordarshan Serial ‘Indradhanush’. Johar made his directorial debut with the widely-seen romance ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)’, which earned him the Filmfare Awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
He is also known as the most prolific launch-pad of the Indian Cinema.
He entered the TV industry and captured a loyal following with his quirky true self. He became a famous TV star with his widely populous TV show ‘Koffee with Karan’, where he plays hosts to a plethora of celebrities from various walks of life. He then went on to judge several dance and performance-based shows.
His venture into the web series with the lust stories has been equally fruitful. After family oriented epics like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam and Kabhi Alvida na Kehna, he delighted his audience with advanced cinema cult of ‘My name is Khan’, ‘Raazi’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. The epic ‘Baahubali’ was also a Dharma Production. Frankly stating, with more than 10 movies in the pipeline, Dharma Production has become the cake that everyone wants to have a piece of.
ON BEING THE FAVOURITE CHILD OF CRITICISM.. (the sourness)
The sourness of a Margarita makes it truly what it is. Best known nowadays as a media personality, he has been commented upon, appreciated and trolled opulently. But, the good part is that it has not managed to subdue him. Rather, time and experience have helped him accept himself, his choices and leave behind the related insecurities. He has been commented upon his choices of films, sexual orientation, single father, friend’s shows and what not. He has been adjudged the ’flag-bearer of nepotism’. But, somehow all this have made them stronger and taller. He is the cine elephant who knows how to walk his path regardless.
ON SEXUAL CHOICES… (salt on the glass rim)
What an individual chooses to be, should be his or her choice and not of any value to anyone else. But so is not the case with Karan Johar. He has been not given even an inch of space, to let things be. But, Karan has been able to lap up the glory and sideline the trolls, the way they should be done…
ON BEING A SINGLE FATHER (the freshly squeezed lime)….
This hardcore cinematic businessman welcomed his two kids, Yash (named after his father) and Roohi (a realignment of his mother’s name) into this world in 2017 through IVF surrogacy. Small kids handled by moms are a general scenario, but kids handled by a ‘father-only’, is saying wet grounds to the least and it needs to be carefully treated. Karan Johar, as this work, seems to be acing up this arena too. As a doting father he has been caring and looking after them, despite his hectic work and social life schedules; and making a good job out of it too.
HIS FRIENDS (fruity flavors for variations)…
Anybody and everybody seems to know Karan Johar. Be it the movie industry, the television industry, the movie industry down South, cricketers; basically, all celebrities seem to be in awe of this celebrity. He is a caring friend, and a down-to-earth individual (with eccentric cloth choices and a knack for shopping, amongst others). He is also known as the most prolific launch-pad of the Indian Cinema. Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Tara Sutaria, Ananya Pandey, amongst others have been launched through his films.
He was born with a silver spoon. But, he has been doing ground-breaking work to convert that silver spoon into a golden one for his kids. You could have the margarita of this personality neat straight up, on the rocks, frozen or with ice; completely your choice. But, you definitely cannot ignore him. Karan Johar’s life and attitude with innate graciousness, family values, and openness to adopting newer mindsets, concepts, and functionalities of the outer world are an inspiration for the world to know and understand. This man deserves a standing ovation for specifically being who he is…
