Coronavirus Quarantine: Why is self isolation making you feel so damn horny?
Are you constantly thinking about sex and feeling horny during your coronavirus quarantine? Fascinating about your latest crush? Constantly surfing porn websites? If yes, then you are not alone. Experts have some very valid reasons to explain the recent rise in your thirst levels…
26-year-old Matt is bored, stressed and anxious about being homebound due to outbreak of coronavirus. Despite all these fears plaguing his mind, Matt is constantly thinking about sex, masturbating and fantasizing about his latest crush. He is also guilty about thinking of sex ata time when people are worried about their survival, there are constant updates about increase in death toll due to the pandemic and the economy is crashing like never before.
So is it normal for Matt to feel lustful and horny at these challenging times? It seems YES.
Catriona Boffard, a clinical sexologist and psychotherapist, talks to Vice and reveals the reason why it is common to feel a heightened sexual desire during the times of pandemic.
She says —
Some people use sex as a way of coping with anxiety or stress, as a mechanism for relief, and as a way to connect with others and therefore lower anxiety around disconnection.
Hence, sexual activities, including foreplay, masturbation and intercourse are used as means to relieve stress and anxiousness.

So while some people use sex as a remedy for stress, most of us use it to feel happy, satisfied and content. Sharing her thoughts behind why it is natural to feel horny at the time of coronavirus crisis, Dulcinea Pitagora, a psychologist and sex researcher, tells Mic —
The brain wants oxytocin. This is always true, but when we are feeling vulnerable, we are more susceptible to what our body is craving. For some people that craving is expressed as horniness.
Also, since most people are following social distancing and are not able to go to gyms, parks, bars and movie halls, they are feeling lonely, disconnected and vulnerable. As there are not many things to keep them distracted, they constantly lust for some intimacy.

Hence, it is not surprising that we can see social media being flooded by horny messages and an increase in traffic on porn sites such as Pornhub. In fact, several porn websites are cashing in on people’s fears and are advertising things like “coronavirus porn” to get more people to watch porn. And it seems their strategy is working.
As per data revealed in The Next Web, there were a total of 6,877,922 coronavirus searches on Pornhub in the last 30 days. The hunt for COVID-19-themed porn peaked on March 5, with over 1.5 searches in a day. Also, there has been a spike in online sale of sex toys as well as an increase in thirsty memes.
J. Matsui De Roo, a Vancouver-based anti-oppression counsellor, agrees that pandemic horniness is a thing. Blaming it on our evolutionary impulses, he tells Flare —
It makes sense in times of uncertainty for us to want our genes to carry on: Even when we’re having non-reproductive sex, sex drive is connected with reproduction.
There is another reason that could lead to most of us feel an increase in horniness and that is insecurity that we might not be able to have sex in the near future. And as human psychology craves for what you can’t have, people are feeling frustrated thinking of an impending sexual drought.
“There’s likely going to be a feeling of sexual scarcity for many as our in-person interactions become more and more restricted,” adds De Roo in his interview with Flare.

So whatever maybe the reason for your sudden lustfulness and horniness, don’t be harsh to yourselves. It is natural and there is nothing to be ashamed about.
It also means that you are alive and healthy!
