It’s not your fault (Or maybe it is a little) but stereotyping rainbow people is a sin you better not commit. (Or else….we will educate you politely. Duh! We are awesome that way)
If we get a dollar for every time someone’s pukes stereotypes about us on our face with unbothered confidence, we would have brought us a new planet. (With a rainbow ring around it for sure)
So today we are going to put light on this serious issue and let all people out there that not every queer person is fond of rainbow colours ( Among other things)
Lo and behold the list of most common stereotypes about LGBTQ that you should stop using….or else.
1. Queer people aren’t religious
Just because the Bible mentioned about Adam and Eve and forgot to tell you about Adam and Steve doesn’t mean we are going to be god haters. In fact, according to a 2018 poll from Buzz Feed News and Whitman Insight Strategies, more than 70 percent of respondents still feel connected to religion, disproving this stereotype entirely.
So yes we pray too! We pray all the haters out there grow a brain.
2. Bisexuals are promiscuous
Umm. No! My sexual preference isn’t the benchmark upon which my character as a human will be judged so control on those judgments you pass on bisexuals before you get to know them. This stereotype arrives from stupid thinking that bisexuals can’t be monogamous. Umm, No again!
There are certain things you shouldn’t say to bisexuals because it might cause them to have permanently rolled eyes. (Think about them)
3. Lesbians = Masculine women
You might now have this stereotype if you are a frequent visitor to incognito mode and adult movies, cause lesbians there are anything but masculine (Bull-cr*p). But the masculine stereotype is completely false and fails to acknowledge the fact that lesbians just like every other human, come in all shapes, sizes, races, and gender expressions.
4. All gay men are flamboyant and feminine
Thanks to all the romcoms where the lead actress got a gay best friend. This stereotype dates back to the word “gay” itself, which had originally been used to describe someone who was overly cheerful, loud, and happy. Believe it or not, even the super masculine figure like The Godfather had his experiments with men.
Masculine or what?
5. All transgender are drag queens
Lets put on our teacher hats and impart you with some knowledge. Drag queens equal a man who takes on a female persona while in costume or performing who doesn’t necessarily identify themselves as women, according to ‘Them’, an LGBTQIA+ publication.
Where as a trans women- are people who were born with male genitalia but identify as women. They’re not putting on a show by wearing feminine clothing—they’re expressing the gender with which they identify.
“Any fool can know. The key is to understand.” –Albert Einstein.
6. Lesbians loathe men
Absolutely incorrect! Just because their sexual orientation doesn’t match up with the heteros doesn’t mean their view on men is any different. We all have men in our lives as friends, colleagues, fathers, and brothers. And we can’t live without them. (All the Meninists in the room goes wild)
7. Gay men are sexual predators and pedophiles
This is a very serious accusation on the part of people who are too scared to accept the fact that even normal heteronormative people can be foul humans. A University of California, Davis, research revealed how gay men and women only account for less than one percent of all molestation cases in which an adult was identified.
“People fear what they don’t understand and hate what they can’t conquer.”― Andrew Smith
8. Queer folk try to convert other people
Remember the planet for queer people we talked about earlier. Yeah! We don’t want to overpopulate it so this one stands wrong. If anyone is an ardent listener or even an observer, you will get to know that one thing LGBTQ people keep on repeating is that-
“We are born this way”
It ain’t your local car dealership of which you can just get membership of.
Well! Now that you are educated we would also expect you to share this knowledge with your fellow people who thrive in ignorance.
And if you still claim to have this phobia about LGBTQ community then honey, It isn’t a phobia. You are not scared. You are an a**hole!
