Heartbreak is such a difficult experience. We all go through it (or most of us anyway!) but it’s indescribably personal.
Sometimes you have to flow with it, feel it, and probably most important, learn from it so that you can heal and move forward.
Heartbreak can be a cruel, an unfair thing, but it can happen to anyone who is put their heart out there. No one skates by in life without at least one broken heart, but the truth is you wouldn’t really know what love is without having your heart be pounded, broken, and demolished, now would you?
Letting go of someone you truly love is one of the most difficult things to do.
But, as uncomfortable and painful as it is, heartbreak is also incredibly enlightening. In fact, there are certain things you can only understand after you’ve gone through a difficult breakup.
Heartbreak can take days, weeks, months, and sometimes (although this is super unhealthy) years to get over, it teaches us so much.
Heartbreak is tough, but it is a moment in time in which you can grow.
Taking your tears, sleepless nights, and stomachaches and turning them into ways to better understand your relationships and yourself is where heartbreak becomes it’s most powerful.
Sometimes the person you love the most at the moment is teaching you something to help prepare you for the person you are meant to be within a more long term relationship.
I know you may not want to hear this, but the beauty of relationships is that you learn what you like, don’t like, value, don’t value.
Here are the lessons breakup can teach you
You can be genuinely happy on your own.
While many of us may find romantic relationships fulfilling, having someone is not prerequisite to lead a happy life. In fact, you can be enough on your own and happiness does not depend on someone else but your own self is much happier living on their own.
Your life is completely fine before you met a guy, so believe in yourself that you’ll eventually get back on track, and when that time comes, you will realize that happiness can’t be found in other people. It’s within you.
You Don’t Always Get What You Want
It’s a fact that you may never get the things you ask for. When you are in love with someone, you want to spend all your time with them. You have expectations of them like they have of you. But when the love goes a bit awry, these expectations become taxing to keep up with and you constantly prepare them to the times that were blissful and beautiful.
But not all beautiful relationships have a beautiful end.
Most times the person you gave your heart and love to start moving on. You wish things were different and feelings remain but this is where you need to understand that you can’t get what you want all the time and this is the most important lesson of all.
You will find your true friends
It’s inevitable that some people will not be there when you need them the most. It’s also inevitable that those who belong in your life will be there for you to hold your hand and stand by you as you work through your pain. Know that those who don’t hang around aren’t meant to be in your life. The once who do are your true friends for life and should be cherished.
Your goals will become clear
There is nothing like life-shattering pain to help you get focused on what is important to you.
Is it really about getting a bigger paycheck or is finding a fulfilling career more important?
Is dating another person of the same type the right step or would it be better to be alone for a while to know yourself first so you make better decisions?
Big setbacks can lead to huge leaps forward when you look at how the situation could be different, so be open-minded and open-hearted during painful times.
You learn how to find the silver lining in situations
You might not smile too often, but you’ll notice little things that make you happy while you deal with the heartache of a lifetime. Suddenly, you’ll realize that it’s the little things that make a big difference. You’ll learn to find silver linings in dark clouds, and this is a great life tool, no matter how you look at it.
