Those days aren’t far when the famous phrase ‘young, wild and free’ will change to ‘young, bald, and shiny’.
Hair loss is something we all associate with aging and old people but recently an unwanted trend of young and hairless has taken the attention of many. As people born in the mid-1980s and early 2000s also known by a cooler vernacular, THE MILLENNIALS are suddenly experiencing the wrath of clogged drain pipes and bald patches on top of their heads.
There are many reasons that can be put to blame for this unfortunate mowing of our head tops.
Dietary patterns- Millennials or the generation Y is more likely to adapt to unhealthy diets with the increase in availability of food with a click of a button in less than 30 minutes. This deficiency of protein or iron further escalates the issue of wiped heads as these two largely make up for the health of hair.
Another reason is the trendy or more conscious generation who are going vegan or vegetarian. Not to discourage any of you from pro PETA population, but to remind you to supplement both protein and iron from other sources.
Listen to your mother and do check out the list of food items she has been recommending with that old humdrum of ‘humare zamane mein’.
STRESS- With the advent of a highly self-aware generation who is out there venturing into a plethora of competitive opportunities, emotional stress, stress from maintaining grades in university, stress created in your work environment, stress due to relationship problems has notched up to new levels. Modern lifestyles are becoming more stressful and this can take its toll on the body. One way your body does this is by shedding hair. (If only our body could also shed that extra weight in name of stress)
Have that ‘we need to talk’ conversation with your stress and break up with it.
Mental health- Pulling an all-nighter isn’t a joke, but if performed every night, it soon takes the form of dark humor on top of your head. Hair fall is a side effect to all the evils that go inside our mind like depression, insomnia, and anxiety. All these, in turn, lead to stress which further leads to a hairstyle adopted by Mogambo (Mogambo might be khush with it but I don’t think everyone will). Keeping a healthy mental life might seem like a dream for us all struggling in the 21st century but nothing in life is permanent. (Not even tattoos nowadays)
“Life can’t be perfect but your hair can be“.
Hairstyles- High ponytails, man buns, spikes, and tight braid halo might be in trend these days, but just like Fridays, they wouldn’t last. Only thing lasting after experimenting with your hair every other weekend with chemicals, blow-dries, or straightening would be a reflecting surface on top to send those signal back to people on Mars. So try canceling that reservation at beauty salon once in a while and go natural.
With drinks already as expensive as they are, you wouldn’t want to invest in those artificial wigs, hair extensions or those surgeries which attach fake hair on your head (yikes). Cut down on all the negatives mentioned above and focus on a healthy lifestyle where your volume of hair can be the loudest.
Invest in your hair; it is the crown you never take off.
