If there is a single word for Oscars its Avante-Garde. This year celebrities went a little more daring and went all out in the name of fashion. While some did it with finesse, others were just plain nightmarish. Dramatic ruffles and larger than life gowns caught the attention of many fashion watchers all the while providing plenty of fodder to Twitter jokes. Sorry not sorry but below-attached photos may give you cringe heart attacks.
Meme-worthy- Rachel Weisz in ‘Givenchy’
Rachel Weisz dress is a perfect example that red isn’t always is a safe choice. The target of many twitterites, her choice of wearing a couture rain poncho may have been appreciated by meteorologists but fashion police isn’t that forgiving. Better luck next time Miss Weisz.
Uncomfortable fashion- Emma Stone in ‘Louis Vuitton’
While some may have appreciated the high fashion choice of ever so beautiful Emma Stone, but the outfit couldn’t help but generate a level of awkwardness among fans. Wearing a structured copper gown which had some very statement shoulder features, her dress was a bit otherworldly but unfortunately, we don’t mean that in an appreciative tone.
Tulle went wrong- Linda Cardellini in ‘Schiaparelli’
Layers are friendly but the material of pink tulle and frothy texture on Linda overshadowed her beauty. With a deep neck cut and a tulle cape almost making us cringe, this outfit is going in the history of Oscars to be the worst appealing outfits.
Grandma’s curtains- Maya Rudolph
The famous comedian made audience giggle once or twice with her opening skit alongside Amy Pohler and Tina Fey but her flowing pink bed sheet dress was downright hilarious. If the print from the 80s wasn’t enough, she added a cape and a tie knot around her neck too. Somebody should have given her a wand and the tooth fairy look from the 1700s would have been bang on.
Unmet Expectations- Charlize Theron in Dior
The ever so Sexy Charlize forgot to bring her A-game to the Oscars this year. While her face was sculpted to perfection, no doubt there, but what happened to her dress is a plain tragedy. A dingy fit, murky colour and that shoulder design shouts ‘pathetic’ rather than ‘Oscars’. We expected a lot from you Charlize but a trail of broken hearts and disappoint is what followed your gown train.
A horror story- Sarah Paulson in Brandon Maxwell
Sarah is known to rock those out of the box gowns usually, but this time her pink choice for Oscars is debatable. Imitating a full-blown pink hot air balloon isn’t a very digestible look for the star. While there have been many letdowns this year, her outfit is too painful to even describe in words.
We truly believe that “It’s often from a sense of discontent, feelings of incompleteness, or even a twinge of true unhappiness, that the seeds of great accomplishment are sown”. So here is to hoping that next year will be better than this and the crestfallen will rise again. Also
