It was World Breastfeeding Week last week. And these celebrity moms sure deserve a shoutout for daring to choose their baby over everything else
Breastfeeding became a stigma as zero figures seeped their way into our lives. But thankfully some celebrity moms chose not to give in and compromise their child’s health.
While they are the ones who are ideals of hourglass figures, these 10 celebrities also battle the stigma of breastfeeding
Meet these daredevil moms
It is a completely natural thing and is a part of growing up. But the stigmas and taboos created around breastfeeding instill pressure among mothers. And while it will take a while to come out of these taboos,
These celebrity mothers went candid and chose to breastfeed publically
Model and actress, Lisa Haydon, has been very bold and candid. She has clearly embraced her motherhood after the birth of her son, Zack.
While Lisa claims it was confusing for her in the beginning, she revealed that breastfeeding was the best way through which she connected to her son.
Shahid Kapoor’s wife was very clear about breastfeeding. The mother of two, Mira Rajput, thinks that it is one of the best gifts one can give to a baby, “I have spoken about the importance of feeding the baby in the past too. I was extremely religious with Misha and I am going to do the same with my newborn. It is the greatest gift you can give your baby.”
The Bollywood actress’ children are all grown up now. But she made the inspiring decision to breastfeed her children. In fact, she was very particular about not depriving her body and (in turn) her children from “essential nutrients”
Karishma says, “Women often have various notions about some foods which should or shouldn’t be eaten when they are pregnant. And when it is about shedding kilos after pregnancy, it becomes even more crucial to lose weight in a safe manner without depriving your body of the essential nutrients. After all, you need to breastfeed your baby and manage other tasks as well and not eating right will only harm your body.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan
As soon as her son, Taimur, was born, he became the internet’s favourite. And Kareena is clearly very particular about her firstborn and his health needs. “First, we need to feed our newborn babies in the best way that we can: with our breast milk. To give your baby the best start in life that he or she deserves, start breastfeeding within the first hour of life – and feed the baby only breast milk, nothing else.”
Model and chef, Christy Teigan, has always been bold against shaming and stigma that goes hand-in-hand with public breastfeeding. In fact, she opened up about the struggles she faced as she fed for the first time.
The mother of two says, “You just get so confused about how it’s supposed to feel, and as hard as anyone said it was, I feel like it somehow managed to be harder.”
McAdams was the talk of the town earlier this year after she made headlines with her bold photoshoot for a magazine cover. In the cover, Rachel can be seen with breast pumps.
While it received criticism from some, many applauded her move. Well, ‘The Notebook’ actress clearly broke some stereotypes.
The actress has been proactive in fighting against the stigma that surrounds breastfeeding in public.
“It’s boobs. It’s another part of your body that has skin. Boobs don’t provide the shock and awe to me that they do for some people. It’s comical that people are against feeding in public.”
Furthermore, the source quoted her saying, “If it makes you uncomfortable, it’s your responsibility to move away, not mine to cover up. I don’t care where I’m breastfeeding. It never crossed my mind. What crossed my mind is: ‘Was my child hungry?'”
The supermodel wooed everyone with her most popular shoot. In the snap, Gisele was portrayed getting her hair and makeup done and at the same time breastfeeding her daughter.
Indeed some criticised the shoot. But it was welcomed by mothers who face backlash for the most natural part of their motherhood.
She is a single parent who has been very candid about her parenthood. The supermodel shared a throwback picture in which she is getting ready for a shoot. But what’s unique about this image is that Padma is multi-tasking and breastfeeding her daughter, Krishna Thea Lakshmi. “This is a shout out to working Moms everywhere!!”
The actress is known for giving out health and beauty secrets through her blog. And it was in this blog that she claimed that breastfeeding was the secret to her curves. In fact, in an interview with Harper’s Bazar, she said, “I stay healthy by working out but not dieting because I am a milk machine.”
Not only these 10, but there are two other moms who chose the opportunity of World Breastfeeding Week this year to spread awareness.
The Bollywood actress and new mother, Sameera Reddy, too took to their Instagram handle and appealed all to support the mothers as they face new physical and emotional changes. Additionally, she urged to remove all taboos associated with breastfeeding.
