There are plenty of hair colors that go in and out of style. In this past year, we’ve seen butter-beer hair, desert rose hair, and peanut butter and jelly hair, to name a few.
To color your hair is a BIG decision – and one that definitely cannot be taken lightly. Much thought and potential photo-shopping should be undertaken, so that you can gauge if you’ll suit the shade.
If you’ve been stuck between a rock and hard place aka swaying back and forth between being blonde or brown, know that there are a load of celebs who have braved it, lived to tell the tale, and looked pretty great, too.
Despite all of her sisters lightening their locks at some point or another, Kendall has stayed true to her roots and left her hair to do its naturally dark thing. So, when she debuted blonde strands at the LFW Burberry show we nearly fell off our chair. Obviously, she pulled it off like a pro, but, seriously, she looked SO different. While we were busy hyperventilating over the new hue, she was busy getting it dyed back, because, just a few days later she emerged with dark hair all over again. We can’t keep up, tbh.
Millie Bobby Brown
The naturally brunette actress pulled off not one but two major hair transformations in Miami this week. On Thursday, two separate salons in the city shared photos of Brown’s makeovers. According to a post by Dafne Evangelista Beauty Lounge, she got long, brunette extensions, while a separate post from YSV Salon shows the actress getting her hair lightened all the way to a bright, Eleven’s-wig-in-Stranger-Things-Season-1 shade of blonde.
Around the time of her modeling debut, Bella Hadid dyed her blonde hair brown as a way to differentiate herself from her older sister, model Gigi Hadid. In July 2019, Bella returned to her natural hair color, and the transformation made her look…a lot like Gigi.
With her signature glossy and beautiful Latina locks, Selena Gomez will be the last star we’d ever expect to go blonde. But she did and shocked us all at the 2017 American Music Awards in November. Labeled “Nirvana Blonde” by trusted hairstylists, Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee of Nine Zero One Salon, the Luxy team can’t stop raving about Selena’s epic transformation.
Her hairstylist, Riawna revealed on her Instagram, “It took 9 hours, about 300 foils, and 8 bowls of bleach,” to achieve Selena’s new look. Whoa. And well worth it! If there’s any celeb who makes us want to hop over to the light side, it’s this beauty for sure.
Ariana graced her Sweetener album cover and merch with photos boasting icy blonde locks, but quickly returned to brown strands once more. The platinum blonde looks sleek in her signature ponytail, and although we really missed the bangs, you have to admit she looks bomb.
Lily Collins is no stranger to experimentation when it comes to style and hair. But in November 2017, the usually brunette actress teased a brand new golden blonde look on Instagram. “Not sure if it’s the blonde or this city, but I really am having more fun…” she captioned in explanation. Though shortly after, the actress went right back to her darker natural locks.
In 2017, the then 36-year-old took to Instagram to reveal an insanely pretty head of blonde highlights—much different than the light brown we’re so accustomed to seeing on Alba.
Paired with a bright-red lip against dewy skin, honey-blonde looks damn good on Alba, who was then pregnant with her third child. And, obviously, her fans agreed, with most comments on the Instagram photo skewing toward things like, “Love the lighter hair,” and, “She looks stunning!!!”
In March 2019, after posting a selfie while wearing hair foils, teasing a new look, Cyrus posted a video that revealed her new hairstyle — which looks exactly like the wig she used to wear as her iconic Disney character, Hannah Montana.
“You know guys, it was so hard going back and forth that I decided, I’ll just be Hannah forever,” Cyrus said. “She was getting a lot of press this week, thanks to me.”
Although some celebrities change their hair as quickly as they do outfits, when it comes to visiting the salon, few decisions are harder than choosing a new color.
They look as good as they do with their natural colour.
