Be it the news hour or your Facebook notification pop up – from the looks of it, it seems like every other day one country or the other is trying to end the abortion access.
“Human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights.”Hilary Clinton
No matter how much it makes us cringe to the thought that these lawmakers really need to stop deciding what people really want, rather they can stick their opinions up their…you know where!
While others are busy mumbling what is right and what is not, beauty brands have come forward to take their stand against the anti-abortion laws.
“I don’t want myself or anyone else to live in a world where we’re not in control of our own bodies.”
Katie Sones, Lipslut founder
Lipslut, MAC Cosmetics, and more brands are donating proceeds from sales to the ongoing efforts of organizations like Planned Parenthood and the ACLU (The American Civil Liberties Union). Here are a few of them;
Founded by celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, Ouai announced that it will be donating $10,000 to Planned Parenthood. Not just that, Ouai will also be donating $1 per ‘like’ on their Instagram announcement post – “We believe in the right to choose, and we’re choosing to stand with our community to protect women’s reproductive rights.”
As Anti-Trump as it can get! Lipslut created the Anti-Trump and the Anti-Brett Kavanaugh lipsticks and the proceeds these anti-products will be going to the charities and the organizations that work towards protecting reproductive rights, which includes Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Network of Abortion Funds, and the Yellowhammer Funds. 100% of the earnings site-wide will be going to these organizations but for that, you need to choose the “Keep Abortion Safe” option during checkout.
Benefit’s approach to philanthropy is rather different. The brand’s Bold is Beauty Project, donated 100% of their proceed from their brow waxing services during the month of May. Further, 100% of the proceeds from the special-edition brow gel in rose-gold packaging will go towards the cause, as well.
NOTO donated 100% of their sales to the ACLU (The American Civil Liberties Union) earlier in May. The brand also revealed on Instagram that it raised $4500 for the cause and this included sales of their multi-use oil which can be used as a hydrating serum or as a massaging oil as well.
The Lipstick Lobby
The Lipstick Lobby is not just a beauty brand it’s a whole empire standing up for a justice movement supported by Gloria Steinem, a feminist and civil rights activist. Each lip shade in the Lipstick Lobby has been curated to fight against a specific cause. For example, the Kiss My Pink lipstick donates 100% of their proceeds to the Planned Parenthood.
While other beauty brands are coming together now, MAC Cosmetics has been working with Planned Parenthood for years – 2008 to be precise. If that wasn’t enough, the brand has given a two-year commitment to donate $500,000 to Planned Parenthood’s chat/text program and a new sexual health chatbot called Roo. This donation is a part of MAC’s VIVA GLAM charity lipsticks that renders to different philanthropic organizations.
Herbivore Botanicals announced a $5 donation to the ACLU (The American Civil Liberties Union) for every purchase of their Phoenix Facial Oil or Phoenix set. This donation drive will continue till June 16.
The show and the fight must go on!
