So, is the iconic show reviving for season 7?
‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ reboot inspiration already underway
Well, technically.
Warrior Princess, Xena, is a 90s television gem. The second the character appeared in ‘Hercules’, and from there getting its more successful spin-off show, Xena has always been a fan-favourite. But the question remains, In an age of reboots, some very successful and others falling flat on their face, will this reboot work?
Fans believe that there is fresh new Xena content to base the new series on. In particular, the 2019 Vita Ayala’s comic book titled “Xena” draws inspiration from the original TV series and takes place somewhere around the middle of the show’s run.
But the comic has new characters and new plot lines for the reader to enjoy, making it the perfect recipe for a reboot of the super successful show. What is even more exciting about the comic book series is that Vita Ayala makes the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle quite clear, making their status as a couple, official.

Xena: A feminist icon with a gritty reboot
We are convinced that if a reboot of this show is underway, it will be nothing short of breathtaking. We are talking about new-age technology visual effects with a darker and grittier feel to the show.
Imagine ‘Game of Thrones’ but with a strong, single, female lead who is also a feminist icon. Xena, in the roaring 90s, was both a leader and a skilled hero. Her misogynistic male enemies faced defeat many times due to her high intelligence and skills in specialized weaponry.
She, with her subtle queerness, opened doors for future queer characters on screen. So, in a time where there are so many female-led roles on screen, it seems like it is time for ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ to maker her inevitable return.
Who will return to the reboot?
Lucy Lawless, who is inseparable from her role as Xena, the princess warrior, will return for season 7. Renee O’Connor will also be returning as Gabrielle in the seventh season.
Although in 2017, there were rumours of a reboot taking place, NBC scrapped that dream before it could manifest. Given the coronavirus pandemic and NBC launching a new streaming app, ‘Peacock,’ the reboot can finally get a green light.
But, the coronavirus situation is making a lot of networks backtrack their earlier decisions. So, is a reboot just as far away as an announcement is?
Only time will tell! But there has been no better time than right now to welcome a badass woman warrior, and we are all waiting here for it.
