Is ‘The Ranch’ returning with part 9 even after Netflix officially concluded the series earlier this year? Let’s find out the truth.
Making its debut on Netflix in 2016, ‘The Ranch’ ran for almost four years, completing a total of 80 episodes in 8 parts of 10 half-hour episodes each. Before Netflix announced the show’s conclusion in January this year, the show enjoyed massive popularity partly due to it featuring several of the ‘That ’70s Show’ stars such as Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Wilmer Valderrama, Kurtwood Smith, and Debra Jo Rupp. Netflix had originally planned to end The Ranch with the 8th part in January this year. However, rumours seem to suggest that The Ranch might be preparing for season 9 to the silver screen. So, after all, is there any truth to these rumours? Has something really changed? Fans have been restlessly asking these questions from the showrunner on social media platforms.

- Has the show been revived?
- It would be great to see these characters back on screen
Fans went as far as to draft an official petition urging Netflix and CBS to not end ‘The Ranch’. According to the latest rumours, the showrunners are preparing for part 9, which will be the show’s final season. Let’s find out the truth behind this!
What has happened so far on the show?
The show revolves around the inhabitants of the Iron River Ranch in Colorado, mainly the Bennett family. The Bennett family is composed of Beau Roosevelt Bennett (Sam Elliot), his two sons Colt Reagan Bennett (Ashton Kutcher), and Jameson “Rooster” Ford Bennett (Danny Masterson). Colt is the younger son who comes back on the ranch from college after he fails his stint as a professional football player.

Colt is shown as a heavy drinking, kindhearted but somewhat stupid guy contrary to his older brother Rooster who is tad bit smarter but just as big of a drinker as Colt and also far better at ranch work than his younger sibling.
In a Q&A, Ashton Kutcher revealed that although he had come to see the show’s cast as his extended family, the thought of the show going on for longer than it should really displeased him.
He said,
“I have been on shows that went longer than they should have”. Most likely a reference to his role in CBS’s ‘Two and A Half Men’. He added, “We got to the point where we were able to let everybody know that this was the last season, that we were going to wrap it up, so everybody had time to find their next gigs”.
Has the show been revived?
Well, there is no denying the fact that fans are eager for the revival, as is evident by the petition. This can mainly be credited to the show’s high popularity and the popularity of the cast of the show.
The show had originally come to provide nostalgic soothing to the fans of ‘That ’70s Show’, who saw the same actors moulded into a new show with tons of cameos from superstars. The show has now been shifted to CBS’s cable network.
One of the reasons why the show might have ended the way it did could have been the allegations of sexual abuse against Masterson in 2017. The event not only tarnished the actor’s and show’s image but a significant drop in viewership and ratings was also observed.
It would be great to see these characters back on screen
Since the show won’t be the same without the Bennetts, fans are eager to see the return of the entire family of Iron River Ranch except maybe Rooster as the allegations against Masterson have not subsided. The allegations and the backlash on social media had forced the show’s writers to kill off his character.
Although much is not clear regarding the show’s potential rebirth, fans are super eager to see the return of ‘The Ranch’. Would you be interested in a new season of ‘The Ranch’? Are you satisfied with the ending? Let us know in the comments box below!
