The reason why Rooster had to leave ‘The Ranch’
In 2017, ‘The Ranch’s’ creators and Netflix decided to write off Masterson’s character Rooster after the actor was accused of raping three women in the early 2000s. The allegations came to light through the #MeToo movement.
Danny Masterson was accused of raping three women in their 20s between October and December of 2003 and in 2001. Masterson’s accusers also filed a lawsuit in August 2019 against him as well as the Church of Scientology, of which Masterson is a longtime member. The church’s leader David Miscavige was also charged with covering up and authorizing the actor’s abuse of women for years.

In a statement to PEOPLE through his attorney, Masterson called the allegations beyond ridiculous. He further added that he is not going to fight his ex-girlfriend (Chrissie Carnell Bixler) in the media as she’s been baiting him to do so for more than two years. “I will beat her in court and look forward to it because the public will finally be able to learn the truth and see how I’ve been railroaded by this woman. Once her lawsuit is thrown out, I intend to sue her and the others who jumped on the bandwagon for the damage they caused me and my family”, said Masterson.
The seriousness of the charges and public outrage were more than enough for Netflix to decide on firing Danny Masterson from ‘The Ranch’. This news was shared with the fans of the show through Netflix’s official Twitter account.
“After discussing with the producers, we’ve decided to write Danny Masterson off of ‘The Ranch’. Yesterday was his last day of work, and we’ll make new episodes in 2018 without him”, Netflix tweeted.
Masterson has been under investigation for sexual assault allegations by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney since 2017. If convicted, he will be subjected to a maximum sentence of 45 years to life in prison.
Masterson urges fans to continue supporting ‘The Ranch’
When Netflix released the part 2 of season 3 of ‘The Ranch’, Danny Masterson took to his Instagram to urge his followers and fans of the show to continue their support despite his character being written off.
Masterson asked them to support the show as they have spent years putting it together. He praised the cast as beyond incredible and the writers as they were given the ultimate worst-case scenarios. Instead of throwing in the towel, they worked long hours to create some new heartbreaking and hysterical storylines. He further praised the show’s creators by recalling how he has worked with most of the crew since the mid-90s on ‘Cybil’, ‘70s’, ‘Men at Work’, and until last year ‘The Ranch’.
Masterson addressed them as his family.
“They work ten to fourteen hour shoot days to make you smile in 30-minute increments. Support them. Support comedy. Support art. Support the Iron River ranch and the Bennett family. Much love y’all”,
Said Masterson in his Instagram post.
Spoiler Alert! Rooster’s comeback on ‘The Ranch’?
In part 6 of ‘The Ranch’, we saw Nick threatening to harm Rooster’s family if he didn’t leave town. Rooster was presumed to be dead after being in a motorcycle accident. Since then his body has never been found.
Is there any chance for Rooster to return to ‘The Ranch’?
Even though Danny Masterson doesn’t physically appear in ‘The Ranch’, but the spirit of Rooster manages to make an appearance. In episode 4 of part 8, his spirit uses the voice of Siri on Colt’s phone to communicate with him. He tells Colt to join him by walking into the light, but the light turns out to be the headlights of a car.
It doesn’t look like ‘The Ranch’ will revive Rooster to bring Danny back to the show as the cases against him are still ongoing. Sadly, fans will have to move on with the fact that he won’t be making a comeback.
