‘Killing Eve’: A psychological warfare with a twist of black humour
‘Killing Eve’ revolves around Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), an agent with MI6 who is obsessed with a notorious female assassin, Villanelle, and her psychology and method of killing. Oksana Astankova a.k.a. Villanelle (Jodie Comer) is a psychopathic, skilled assassin who becomes fixated on the MI6 officer who is tracking her. Soon Eve and Villanelle cross paths only to find out that people in their respective secret circles are more intimately connected than they could possibly fathom but instead of going ahead and following the orders given to them, they start focusing more on getting to know each other.

The vision of the showrunners involves an intriguing take on sexuality and socially dysfunctional characters. ‘Killing Eve’ brings a freshness to the telly world with a story like no other. There has been a lot of discussions even related to the use of fashion in the show. With impeccable reviews, the series manages to capture the undivided attention of viewers season after season and will soon be returning with a season 4.
The popularity and success of ‘Killing Eve’
Season 1 gave BBC America the highest ratings it had ever seen. The season finale was watched by 1.25 million viewers. Season 2 also saw enormous ratings and the network renewed the series for a third season in less than 12 hours from its premiere. Season 3 premiered in April 2020 and became the second most successful show on BBC iPlayer this year with 39 million requests to stream. The series was renewed for season 4 ahead of the release of season 3.
The show has managed to turn heads because of its remarkable acting performances and impressive scriptwriting. It has also found fans in feminists who have praised the show for being helmed by female showrunners each season.
Season 4: What will we get to see?
Jodie Comer was reportedly quoted saying,
“We know we’ve got a season 4, but it’s unclear as to when that will be. But we’ve vaguely started having conversations about storylines and what kinds of possibilities there are, so that’s always really exciting”
while talking about the next season.
Season 3 finale saw Eve and Villanelle having a heart-to-heart which makes us wonder whether the two will have a happy ending. Comer, however, believes that this might not really be a possibility. She said that according to her it is very unlikely that Villanelle will get a truly happy ending because she is her own worst enemy and that is something impossible to get away from. Season 4 will also shed light on whether Dasha Duzran (played by Harriet Walter) survived the heart attack or not.
It has been confirmed that Laura Neal will be on board as a writer for season 4. In a statement it has been reported by AMC,
“We have a remarkable squad of ferociously smart women writers passing the baton to each other on this show, aligned around a coherent vision but bringing it to life with their own specific sparkle and brilliance. Laura Neal is the latest incredible leader of the pack on ‘Killing Eve’”
