A quick recap of season 8
Season 8 was quite the drama and fans wished it didn’t end so soon. The creators were hoping to wrap up season 8 with 23 episodes but, due to the pandemic, only 20 could completely be filmed. So, naturally, the eighth season left fans with some major cliffhangers.
In the season finale, the audience saw Foster telling Stella that she wanted to go back to med school. Meanwhile, she had already reapplied to Northwestern and had an interview coming up that week. But, for all the right reasons, she was afraid that this news would break Brett’s heart, especially since things had come to a pretty pass for him. However, because of Foster’s indecisiveness and worry, Will went ahead and spilt the beans. Upset over this thought, Brett wanted to convince Foster to not leave, but he figured she had already made up her mind.
Meanwhile, Capp’s injury from a chlorine explosion has put him at risk of losing his eyesight. Held back at med, he refuses treatment and leaves. Casey, Severide, and Will later find him at his home, resting his eyes in the dark. The trio somehow convinces him to go back to the hospital.

Elsewhere, Gallo and Violet are in a mess. Gallo told Violet that they should keep things casual and see other people, but when she gives him the cold shoulder and says she has a date, he’s not happy. They later have an argument, which ends with Gallo proposing to Violet, who, of course, is unsure of what’s happening.
Season 9 plotline, cast, and everything else you need to know
‘Chicago Fire’ Season 8 was meant to end with 23 episodes and a cliffhanger. Because of unforeseen circumstances, the season ended with some incomplete stories. But isn’t that how cliffhangers are usually like?
In conversation with ET, executive producer Derek Haas said that everything worked out just fine. “… we were five days into shooting that episode when we found out it would be our last for the season. Luckily, we usually have a cliffhanger or two in an episode so this one worked out.”
Haas goes on to say that he is looking forward to extending the “Girls on Fire” storyline for Kidd and also the Casey/Brett storyline, as their friendship grew stronger throughout Brett’s birth mother ordeal.
According to sources, all actors from season 8 will continue to be on spotlight for at least one more season. With long overdue romances, specifically Brett/Casey and Violet/Gallo, fans will not be left disappointed.
When will season 9 release?
Had it not been for the pandemic, the new season would’ve released in September/October, following the release date pattern from previous seasons. However, due to the delays caused by the pandemic, the release date has now been shifted to November this year. The show is slated to return to our screens on November 11, 2020.
