Warrior Nun: The new action kid in the block
A Netflix original, Warrior Nun is a mix of all those favourite fantasy action dramas that we binged on. Quite like any other in the genre, the show involves some incredible fighting sequences, a secret society and of course, demons. It is based on Ben Dunn’s comic book of the same name.
Here’s an interesting fact: the production team for the show is the same one that handled production for Game of Thrones. While that information should be enough to incite interest, the fact that Simon Barry is the director is the cherry on top.
Season 1 of Warrior Nun was wickedly wild, leaving huge possibilities for season 2. The season ends with a big reveal, that Adriel is the one behind all the evil that’s been going on. Building on that, Ava will have to fight his demon army with her crew in order to rescue Shotgun Mary. Another thing that Ava will probably find herself dealing with is the fact that “The Order of the Cruciform” is a lie.
We are hoping that Ava would show some crazy combat skills to find a solution to this problem. Besides, viewers have been left wondering about the whereabouts of Michael and whatever transpired for JC. The second season can be expected to address these as well.
Director Simon Barry told Inverse,
“When we were finishing season 1, we had many more avenues to go down, story-wise. So we created a folder thinking, ‘Hey, if we’re lucky enough to get a season 2, here are some things we could draw from. After seeing the completed show, we regrouped just to talk about ideas.”
According to Barry, season 2 will also investigate further into the back-story of Beatrice. He said to Fangirlish,
“Should we get the chance to keep going, then we’ll definitely want to double down on Beatrice’s story and backstory and find out where that goes. But I can’t say if it’ll resolve into a full-blown relationship with Ava, but I do like the idea that everyone had to come to this story with their own journey and their own battle. And I love that Beatrice is one of our strongest and fiercest combatants in this story. She presents her journey in such a beautiful and nuanced way.”
Warrior Nun season 2 cast revealed
Assuming that season 2 of Warrior Nun will pick it up from where it had left off, the show will see most of the cast returning from season 1. That means, Alba Baptista will return as Ava and Toya Turner as Shotgun Mary. Lorena Andrea will come back as Sister Lilith, while Jillian Salvius will be played by Thekla Reuten. Tristan Ulloa will come back as Father Vincent. Kristina Tonteri-Young will be back as Sister Beatrice, and Sylvia de Fanti will return to play Mother Superion.
William Miller can be expected to return as Adriel, with an even bigger part to play. Emilio Sakarya might possibly return in season 2.
Season 2’s possible release date
Assuming that Netflix will renew Warrior Nun for season 2, it can be expected to hit the screens in the later part of 2021. Netflix usually announces renewals soon after a new season goes on air, so a second season for Warrior Nun has not been officially confirmed. However, given the wide popularity, a second season and more can be guaranteed without a doubt. More so, director Simon Barry has been optimistic regarding more seasons for the show. He told Inverse, “Anything between five and seven seasons would be lovely.”
Warrior Nun will definitely combat its way into our hearts for many more seasons. What new turns would you like the story to take in season 2? Let us know in the comments!
