‘Virgin River’s’ picturesque town is an actual place?
If seeing the series ‘Virgin River’ on Netflix has gotten you dreaming about spending the holidays there then we hate to break it to you, but the ‘Virgin River’ isn’t a real place. It hasn’t even been filmed in the redwood forests of Northern California as mentioned. The show’s perfect cinematographic views come straight from the beautiful parts of Vancouver, Canada, and nearby parts of British Columbia that help add that touch of serenity to the romantic story cooking up on-screen.
According to Country Living, if you wish to get that small-town experience you could visit Snug Cove in Bowen Island, Burnaby and communities in Port Coquitlam, where the show was also filmed.
The first scene of the ‘Virgin River’ which shows the “Welcome to Virgin River” sign was filmed in Agassiz in Eastern Fraser Valley. A frequent hanging spot of Mel and Jack, “Jack’s Bar” has been filmed at The Watershed Grill. It is a real establishment that is located in the North of Vancouver on the Squamish River.
Other town landmarks such as Doc’s clinic, Mel’s cabin, and Paige’s Bakeway are also located throughout the Vancouver area. The scenes shot at Doc’s clinic have been filmed in a real house in the historic Queen’s Park of New Westminster, which was recently listed for $2.3 million.
Though not an actual town, ‘Virgin River’ is an actual tributary of the Colorado River that spreads across Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. So, if you wish to visit it you can but obviously you wouldn’t find Mel, Jack or Jack’s bar around the corner.
