Although Netflix’s original ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ is known to have completed its story, fans are still living in the hopes for a reboot. Could the creators work around a reboot surrounding the pandemic? Let’s see what the creators have to say.
When the Netflix audience first came across ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘, it was hard to imagine how a young woman who lived in captivity for 15 years could find life to be all sunshine and candies. The show has not only been the ultimate stress buster but has also been a life lesson for most of us. Understandably, the unbreakable fandom of Kimmy was quite broken when the show ended its run last year. The unbreakable spirit of Kimmy Schmidt
Kimmy Schmidt, dressed in poppy bright clothes, hovers around New York City with a golden heart. At first glance, it almost seems like she has had a perfectly normal and happy life, but if seen closely, Kimmy has had a horror for a past. Although not God’s favourite, Kimmy knows how to make the best of a sorry situation and laugh through life’s hurdles. Mastered by Tina Fey’s implausible storytelling and sense of humour, ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ is a Netflix comedy that has found a spot in every binge-watcher’s list.
The show follows the life of Kimmy Schmidt, who had lived for 15 years in an underground bunker after being abducted by the leader of a cult, along with three other women. Known as the “mole women”, when rescued, these women decide to return to their lives in Durnsville except for Kimmy. Kimmy makes up her mind to stay back in New York and turn her life around. The only thing that Kimmy doesn’t realise is that her lack of professional and social skills would not let her have it easy in a harsh world.
Kimmy knows to take life “ten seconds at a time”.
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ is one of those shows that would lift your spirits up on a tough day, no questions asked. Kimmy’s philosophy is the best take away from the show that will take you on a positivity high, which never gates stale.

Fans have questions they need answers to!
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ dropped its curtains last year, which brought the story to a full circle. Fans, however, are not ready to say goodbye to the show yet and are still insistent on getting a reboot for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’. Though an interactive movie reboot for the show was launched earlier this year, fans are still not over it and want more of Kimmy time on-screen.
The perfect excuse for the reboot of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ is that fans have unanswered questions.
A fan on Reddit had framed a long hypothesis on Kimmy’s world being the aftermath of the apocalypse (more moral in nature) and listed a few unanswered questions from the series. He said, “Why does Kimmy seem to bring out the good in people? … Is Kimmy the Second Coming? Did the Reverend lock Kimmy in the bunker because she was the only source of good that could stop the Apocalypse or the only one that can restore order to a world that has lost its way?”
Are these questions enough to persuade the creators to return with the show, is the bigger question.
Could a reboot address the Covid-19 pandemic?
When the creators decided to end ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ last year, it was mainly because the team felt that the story was close to its conclusion. Co-creator Robert Carlock, however, confirmed that there were plans to transform the show into a feature form for the ultimate finale to Kimmy’s adventures. He said, “We now have a shorter runway than we originally thought we would and don’t want to overstuff it and rush it. And there are things that I think would be fun to hold off for kind of a big epic finale in feature form”. True to their promises, the creators soon launched an interactive movie for the show, ‘Kimmy vs. the Reverend’ on Netflix, similar to the format of ‘Bandersnatch’.
With a movie reboot of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ already in its place, fans would definitely want more. The refreshing thing about the series is that it largely addressed social issues. The Covid-19 pandemic crisis could serve as a potential premise for the reboot of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’. Robert Carlock re-imagined Kimmy in a pandemic world where social distancing is the new norm. He said, “Kimmy Schmidt is well-prepared to shelter in place, but not so well prepared to be unable to high-five anybody. She spends the episode inventing a machine that will provide the physical and emotional satisfaction of a good high-five. It’s a Temple Grandin conceit”. He also believes Titus would find social distancing as the perfect excuse to never leave his bed, and we agree!
